Isuzu's D-Max is all set to take on the challenge of the 2013 Dakar Rally
Words by Gracey Maquiniana | Photos courtesy of Isuzu Motorsports

Isuzu’s motorsport division has built their most powerful pick-up ever to compete in the world's toughest off-road race, the Dakar Rally. The team will race a purpose-built Isuzu D-Max in the T2 Cross-Country car class for production vehicles which will be piloted by Australian Bruce Garland with countrymen Harry Suzuki taking on navigator duties. Together, they will be attempting covering over 8,000 kilometers over the most difficult terrains of Peru, Argentina, and Chile in just 14 days; hopefully finishing in first.

Rather it comes with a 260 hp, 630 Newton-m of torque chief, according to its ace driver Bruce Garland himself....

Isuzu to join Dakar with the all-new D-Max - Racing News by AutoIndustriya.com

As the article reads - "The Isuzu Motorsports International Off-Road Race Team, based in Australia, enjoyed success at the 2009 Dakar event with a previous-generation D-Max, finishing as the first diesel-powered pick-up in the field."

Rally-prepped D-max 3.0 iTEQ VGS Turbo rated at 260 hp with 630 Nm of torque starting at 2000 rpm.

    Cheers!
With so much hype going on with this new D-max, let's see with the added huge power increase if it got what it takes to bring home the bacon, just like what its slightly-modified predecessor hood-scoop D-max had accomplished in 2009 that back then it got only a 200 hp engine with 500 Nm of torque as a point of comparo, which also used a lot of the stock OEM components when Bruce and Harry Suzuki set out on their maiden Dakar voyage....

Most probably, although we really don't know, a lot of the components now with the 2013 Dakar-prep'd D-max are no longer standard OEM....

    Cheers and thanks for sharing!

Sounds fantastic. I wish the road-going D-Max had that much power.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
