Question is: "WHY?" It's a common suggestion (assumption) but personally, I do not recommend.

Everything in the vehicle has a purpose.... including the thermostat. Purpose of which is to regulate and keep the engine in it's recommended operating temperature. Perfect example is my classic MB. It's a common practice that owners remove the thermostat on the notion that "this ain't Germany where it snows" and "this is a tropical country so the more you need to always keep the engine cool due to hot ambient temp".

True but did you know that the fuel efficiency of a vehicle is affected if the engine is it's recommended operating temp? If too hot, obviously, BAD. But if below operating temp, it's bad too.

So if there is no reason why you should remove the thermostat, then don't.

I only use either IGMO (Isuzu Genuine Motor Oil), Petron Trekker or Caltex Delo 500. Notice that these are considered to be "regular" diesel-adapt motor oil. Why? The life of a diesel engine is in it's oil.... nope, not the KIND of oil but on WHAT STATE the oil is. Ergo, the frequent you change your oil (or every 5,000 or 3 mos whichever comes first), the better. And since one would perform change oil, one need to replace (at the least) the oil filter) --- which is better.

I have 2 diesel vehicles in my garage, a 1983 240D AT (bought 2nd hand Jan 2006) and a 2005 ISUZU Trooper (bought new since Aug 2005). No engine issues whatsoever since acquisition. Modesty aside, I credit it's longetivity not only because of its built but also it's maintenance.... regular/frequent change oil.

The key word here is "Modification".

If you repair or replace a part with an original "Factory" part, that is not a modification. In such a case you should not adjust your ECU.
If you change some original part from "Stock" , such as a bigger or more powerful turbocharger, or make adjustments such as a different fuel type or fuel pressure or volume flow to alter the performance of your engine from the factory specifications, then you are making "Modifications" and should reset you ECU.

The factory settings of your ECU are based on "average" uses. If you want to increase fuel economy, for instance, at the expense of power, you can make an adjustment to your ECU to achieve that (or vice versa).

If you wish me to elaborate, please ask---I'm new here, but I want to be a helpful friend.

Any adjustment you make has a price! Let us not forget that.

    Ciao!

    Uncle Nick.

    hello gurus...

recently got a problem with my crosswind...the power steering pump broke..problem ko hindi na kaya ng repair kit dahil nagkaroon ng dent yung loob ng housing at shafting...naginquire ako sa casa and it cost a fortune nasa 30K plus daw yun then naginquire na din ako sa jason's 21.5K....I can not afford this price as of now....

Baka meron po kayong alam na surplus shop na merong available na power steering pump and pati na din ang price..Sa Blumentritt po kaya meron?

    thanks...
