4JA1 Maintenance

Kumusta po. May mga tanong lang po ako kung papano ba ang maintenance ng 4JA1 engine. Since newbie lang po ako and just recently purchased a second hand LS pickup. any inputs? please...

No "special" maintenance needed. Just like any other diesel engine, regular (every 5,000 kms) change oil and filters (oil and fuel) will suffice.

Other maintenance stuff such as cleaning of exhaust (to reduce the soot/carbon deposits) can also be regularly performed.

Thanks! So basically regular oil changes lang. No special tune ups like we do on gasoline powered engines. Wow that's really nice!

Yep! The 4JA1 engine is a WORKHORSE! Ride and drive lang yan. Basta don't forget the regular 5,000 kms PMS and you're safe.

Sir Benz, how is the exhaust cleaned. i've read somewhere na binubugahan ng tubig ito. tinatanggal ba yung tambutso from the header or flange (mukhang mahirap gawin ito), o may binubuksang butas para mailusot ang water hose para mabugahan ng tubig. kung bubugahan ng tubig yung pipe ng tambutso, mapupuno na rin ng tubig ang fire arrester at muffler. This may lead na kalawangin ang muffler dahil naiimbakan ng water. pasensya na sa makulit na tanong, he he.

Some I know customize a tubular opening at the bend after the manifold. i guess this is to ensure that water won't enter the engine. But an often practice is to insert the hose at the end tip of the muffler and "moderately" open the water..... moderate enough that the water won't climb up to the engine. Pull the hose, start the engine and rev it as if there's no tomorrow.

Yun lang, tiyak na sangkatutak ng dumi ang sahig ng garahe mo nun after.

As for the "rusting" of the muffler.... OEM muffler used now are aluminum --- so no rust issues there. Unlike the old days na B.I. lang gamit.... yun tagilid at kinakalawang. But just to be sure, when you do this muffler cleaning, make sure that you rev it hard enough so the water in the muffler would be spewed out.

. Salamat sir Benzmizer. Nagdalawang isip tuloy ako nang mabanggit mong it will make a big mess sa garahe pag kumalat black stuff. Maigi siguro sa kasa na lang ipagawa ang paglilinis kapag dumating na ang 5K mark. or.. ginagawa po ba sa kasa ito. Maraming salamat ulit.

Wag na sa CASA... gagastos ka pa. What you do is to position your vehicle in front of your least liked neighbor saka mo rev ng todo hanggang maging itim yung bahay ng kapitbahay mo!

Seriously, nalilinis naman yung carbon deposits e but these would not be easy to clean for parang malangis eto. At the least, do this outside your house... a place where you could high pressure wash after.
