push your finger into it. then dapat merong wrinkles na mafo-form.
if wala, most likely it's leatherette.

for me, high quality leatherette is better than pure leather in terms of use.
mas mabilis magwear ang pure leather. i have one installed on my B12 many many years ago. though buhay pa ren cia ngaun, kaso, puro kulubot and if nde ka maingat, madali ren ciang magchip-off.. plus ang mahal mahal nia, compared to leatherette.

it wears better than pure leather, and uber cheap. ung 8K-10K mo, bka buong interior na yun na high quality leather (seats/sidings etc) na cost lang ng isang seat sa pure leather...

real leather could only be found on the cars like the maybach,rollsroyce,bently,maserati...

    get the point?

anything else uses high quality leathrette trimmings.. that will crack in age.

Far from being an expert on these things, I've wondered about the distinctions too. I found this article though:

    Hope this helps.

hmmm ok one way to tell if its pleather (plastic leather or synthetic leather) is when they are cracked and stressed out already, cotton fiber thats holding the material together are showing already.

the real leather has a diffrent crack but its not showing any cotton fiber like the one taken from my brothers 4runner

pleather has a soft unnatural back just like my brothers cheap jacket

real leater has that rough backing but thick feeling like a suead shoes, they last way way way longer than pleather thats for sure.

dont mean your car is not maybach, rollsroyce, bently or maserati your japanes or american car seats are not real leather as far as i know maybach and lexus leather seats are made by same manufacturer. besides just like meledson says you can feel and smeal the real thing.

4agze is right. Real leather is not limited to Maybach, Rolls Royce, or other exotic cars. The main difference is that the exotic ones use premium leather. Kelseat and other local manufacturers also use real leather. You also have a choice of good quality German leather or the ordinary one.

Most vehicles use genuine leather on the seating surfaces only (the place where your butt and back lands). All other areas are synthetic. That's the industry norm nowadays except in high end cars.

    sir otep is right.

Most car manufacturers uses pure leather on seat cover sa may butt & back area, yun sidings ng seat cover synthetic lang. By looks mahirap makita ang pagkakaiba ng pure leather vs. synthetic leather. If you will pinch the material makikita magkaiba ang deformation nila. Even yun mga local SUV dito sa Phil. claming na pure leather yun seat cover nila but its not.

mas elastic ang leatherette.. hindi katulad nang pure leather.. hindi masyadong na streched..

How to tell leather from leatherette or non genuine leather?
