I still have my '99 Starex TCI A/T with only 48T km. in odo, so far very reliable, except for minor nuisances as mentioned in this thread-door handles, cabin lights, etc. Matibay suspension - I brought it through dirt road, up Mt. Makiling up to end of the road to summit past mud springs, even up Mt. Sto. Tomas in Baguio - so far no suspension squeaks. Very comfortable ride. Palitan mo lang yung orig Korean tires - mabilis umoblong at bumukol ang sidewall. I now use Yokohama Super Digger tires (same size)-mas softer ride and very quiet.

I use Shell Rimula-X every 5Tkm oil change. I just had it undergo Carbon Clean at Betan last month then started using biodiesel at 1% - wow, parang gas na ang acceleration nya ngayon. Very sensitive throttle response, sarap ihataw. Turbo performance is excellent.

i have '98 starex, bought it in 2001. 85,000km na ngayon. When buying 2nd hand always replace all fluids specially transmission and engine (eto unahin dapat). Minor problems lang sakin lahat naman mura lang. May persistent leaking gasket sakin sa halfmoon, repaired sa casa bumalik, pero pinagawa ko sa banawe di na bumalik, mura pa php1k lang. Bigla rin namatay makina recently, pero cause lang pala loose electrical connection ng injector. Yan yung matabang wire na itim papunta sa injector. Aircon din palit ng usual consumables like dryer, evaporator etc.
I use Shell Rimula X 15w/40. Wag na kayo mag synthetic (or semi) kasi diesel is a dirty engine by nature and shud be oil changed every 5k km so sayang ang longlife ng synthetic. And diesel is high pressure engine (2x pressure than gas engine) so kelangan nya thicker viscosity oil to help leaks in seals and rings.
Overall, im very happy, very cheap to maintain but starex feels expensive.
Will sell it next year.......and upgrade to newer starex.

Sir Otep i can beat that, '99 Starex A/T 17498km as of 24 Sept 2005 very seldom use, back ulit sa garahe nya for storage sa isang bahay namin, yun nga lang nabasag yung handle sa sliding door had it replace three years ago, pero mukhang mapuputol na naman.

Hi. Bago lang po dito. I have a 2001 svx manual transmission which worked well until last night, napansin ko on idle (with engine on) may ingay galing sa ilalim na parang may nagkikiskisang bakal pero kapag inapakan ko yung clutch ay tumatahimik siya. Sabi ng isa naming kapitbahay na baka release bearing daw. Any idea kung ano po ang problema dito, balak ko na rin dalhin sa pagawaan pero hindi ko alam kung saan dito sa amin sa project 8, qc may mahusay na talyer...

I used to have mine serviced at pitstop motors along quezon avenue. Kumpleto naman ang parts at never experienced repairs needing back-jobs. Medyo mahirap na lang sa amin maglu-luwas ng manila kaya dito na lang sa servitek sa province ang pms nya
