Once you have at least 2000rpm shown it really moves. No need to go much above 3000rpm to change up a gear, since this is then >2,000rpm in that next gear so the great acceleration continues, up the gears.

Fuel consumption is really good also. I have the air-conditioning on all the time just about and really like using the Matrix CRDi VGT's acceleration away from the traffic lights. I still get about 320Km on 25l of fuel , driving around town.

We did round trip Cebu - Caticlan using 4 x Ferries in total. A journey of 900Km (full fuel tank on starting) with 4 adult passengers and luggage and went over the Mountain route in Negros on the way there and 120Kmph on good road stretches.

The low fuel warning lamp came on at Toledo, on the way back to Talisay City. It took 50l of fuel to fill up, so that was 18Km per liter fuel consumption.

Have no passengers/luggage/load, don't use the aircon, and drive economically, keeping to 2000rpm, and 25km/l may well be possible?

It's 110ps (that compares to the Isuzu Crosswind Turbo's 103ps, from its 66.6% increased capacity 2.5l turbo engine) and great torque, and it can leave other vehicles looking like 'slouches' in comparison.

My only complaint is the lack of ground clearance on the Matrix.

I am considering swapping out the Hyundai 14" wheels/Tires for 15"? Anyone done this, and noticed improvements with under steer (and slightly more ground clearance)?

    You are right!
The downside of the Hyundai Matrix CRDI with VGT is the ground clearance (and a bit higher cabin noise which I compared to a Ford Focus), I tried to change with a taller tire but there is a noticeable increase in noise, so I discontinued with that.

After 4 years, I replaced some small underchassis parts which cost me about P5k, never had any trouble, Engine is still superb (knock on wood!), fuel efficiency is great, I am having 45k on the Odo at the moment.

Want some honest opinion from matrix owners.
do you have any problems with your ride? parts? service? kalampag?
How much is a used Matrix M/T or A/T? Would it still be a good buy since this is no longer in the market? Between a Matrix and a Getz Crdi, which would you rather prefer to buy if you would get one today?

I have a problem with my 2005 Matrix crdi vgt, the yelow CHECK ENGINE light will come out when i am going steep downhill using engine brake assist for a longer period. the yellow CHECK ENGINE light will remain lit for about 2 days then disappear by itself.
Anybody can tell me what should be the problem?
