January 28th, 2009 11:19 PM #21yes all cars of the same model & engine but different tranny are geared differently. the A/T has longer ratio because the torque converter can make-up for some at low speed by virtue of torque multiplication. in other words.... the 1.8 S M/T at 100Kph maybe spinning at around XXXrpm, and the same car with the same engine but with an A/T would only be spinning at a lower REV let's call it YYYrpm.

August 25th, 2010 07:28 PM #26hello
I am looking to buy a Honda Civic VIII 1.8(2007 model) with A/T and padle shift and and i want to confirm the actual specs of this car. what is the accelerator 0-100 of this car? There is difference with M/T? I am confused coz for the 2010 1.8 A/T civic special edition official seller gives for 0-100km 11s and for M/T 8,9s. I knew that at least for the 0-100 there isnt any difference. What about fuel consuption?
Thank you very much
And sorry about my english!

August 25th, 2010 08:58 PM #28The Civic 1.8S is slower than the TDCi Focus which does 0-100 in over 8 secs.

Yup. A 1.8 5AT does 0-100 in around 10 and a half seconds (give or take... depending on the weather, the condition of the engine and transmission, how heavy the driver is, whether the AC is off or on, and how much fuel is in the tank). This is tested.
A 1.8 MT should do it in around 9 seconds or a little less, depending on the above factors, as well as how brave you are and whether you're willing to risk dumping the clutch at 5000 rpm to get a perfect launch. Mid-8s at best. US testers get a 0-60 mph in the high 7's... which roughly translates to mid-8s or higher for 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h)
A Civic 2.0 5AT is under 10 seconds. Don't know how far under. I've driven this car but have not timed it. Should be similar to a Focus TDCi Powershift... it's a light car with a great engine and gearbox. (Corolla 2.0, the other lightweight 2.0, is mid-10s. sucky high end power and slow box).
A Civic 2.0 MT should do 8 flat to low 8s. It's faster than a Focus TDCi in a drag-race, but lacks the low end torque to take one from a roll. They're actually pretty evenly matched on a race track. Too bad Honda doesn't sell them anymore.
A Focus TDCi gets between 8.6 to 9.2 with a regular first-gear launch. If you mimic the Civic 1.8 kamikaze launch... which, on the Focus, is attained by slotting it in second gear and dumping the clutch at high rpm, you can get around 8 flat or faster... as long as the ECU doesn't panic at the sight of a 2nd gear clutch-drop and shut off the engine.Last edited by niky; August 25th, 2010 at 10:10 PM.

August 27th, 2010 08:44 AM #30Surprising how most small sedans (econo) have similar 0-100 times. Even the Vios is just a little slower. BTW *niky, could a Focus beat a Civic 1.8MT or 2.0A/T flat out?
Haha well it's been "coming" since 2021 with no given launch date The fact that they're not...
