Hyundai Coupe, 1998 or so - 2 liter 140 hp, 0-60 mph of 7.6 seconds.
Honda Civic SiR, 1999(?) - 1.6 liter 160 hp, 0-60 mph of 7.6 seconds.
Almost even match, I think , until you get past 120 km/h. Coupe was also supposed to be a good handler, and capable of 200 km/h speeds.
I'd nominate the Nissan Sentra SE-R (coupe), 1992 2 liter 145 hp, 0-60 mph of 7.6 seconds... but they never sold it here.

Considering that, according to Initial D, kaya din niyang lampasohin ang Skyline, RX7, Silvia at Evo, I think the fact na halos ka-match niya ang Civic is kind of a complement... hahahaha!!!
Pero maganda daw talagang downhill weapon ang modified AE86... don't expect it to be a supercar killer in stock form, though... it's not that good.

hehe, modified siyempre....kung baga dito, SIR laban sa corolla na small box-type(ung 1983)/liftback..
OT na...
baka hindi downhill/sprint ang laban, advantage yang civic...
e kung uphill, for example: unahan paakyan ng baguio from the foothill of marcos highway....masyado kasing delicado pag kennon, pero ok din! magkaka-alaman lalo na from paakyat sa lion head to baguio!
Choice I would have made as well.
