I don't know much about the particular part number yet, but it's believable.

Note: with the Toyota recall... they really do use different parts for the US and Asia. In fact... some US cars use the Denso unit, not the CTS unit that's being recalled.

No single supplier can fulfill the demand of these manufacturers... so different factories may be supplied by different third-party suppliers.

On my Lynx, for example, which is identical in all mechanical aspects to the US Mazda Protege, the ECU and wiring systems are completely different, due to different market demands. (the ECU is specific only to the Asian/Australian market).

Our Sentra, before, assembled in Taiwan, used electronics, AC equipment and even exhaust manifolds provided by Taiwanese suppliers (yeah, the Japanese engine was mated to Taiwanese cast-iron headers!)

Both Honda Philippines and Toyota Philippines act on orders from the head offices in Japan. If the head offices deem a recall un-necessary, they may not do a recall here.

Toyota did not do a recall locally because they don't use the CTS pedal in local units. Note: when the Prius recall was ordered, they immediately issued a recall for all affected units in the Philippines.

Honda, on the other hand, have not been known to hide recalls. They've issued public recalls for the gas tank straps on the Civic and the CVTF issue with the Jazz and City. There's no indication that they would hide an issue if it did exist.

Not to say that they won't... but given their track record, I doubt it.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Recalls have been going on forever for all car manufacturers. The stricter and louder consumer base in the US made this manifestation very visible.

Now Honda has been recalling defective parts and safety equipment for sometime. These are devices meant to save lives and if faulty can be disastrous. But even airbags (working ones) can cause death by suffocation for children in the front seat so the issue is more complicated.

Which is entirely the opposite of the Toyota recalls (ahhh parang IBM-Apple war nuong dekada '80 now naman Honda vs Toyota fanboys! LOL) which were causing death by being the source of the accident.

The Toyota steering column recalls only happened when Toyota Hilux pickup accidents increased in Japan and this has been going on since 2004. Not as glamorized as the brake or engine or accelerator recalls but still a cause for concern.

May Hilux kami na luma. Meron din Honda city at civic. Di ba mas nakakatakot pag biglang mawala control sa manibela (or brake or gas pedal) kesa isipin mo na wala ka airbag?

These car manufacturers have to be transparent to their customers, especially on matters of safety.....
