Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd is facing short supply of parts which in turn will delay product delivery following the suspension of a production plant in Ayutthaya, Thailand

Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co Ltd was forced to halt production due to severe floods sweeping through the country currently, Honda Malaysia said in a statement today.

The suspension has an inevitable impact on Honda Malaysia's production as the plant in Ayutthaya, along with its suppliers in the same region whose operations are also suspended, provide considerable number of parts for the Malaysian completely-knocked-down models, namely City, Civic, Accord and CR-V.

Honda Malaysia managing director and chief executive officer Yoichiro Ueno said since Monday it has reduced its output at the Melaka plant to prolong the production using on-hand stock.

"We regret there will be a delay in product delivery as the production in our plant has slowed down due to suspension of parts supply.

"However, the delivery timing for all our completely-built-up units are not affected yet currently," he said. Ueno said the Ayutthaya plant still remained flooded and was inaccessible by
    road until now.

"This is making it difficult for us to estimate the recovery time. However, we'll assess the situation closely on a daily basis and hope for the best though we foresee the recovery may take longer than we expected earlier," he added. -- Bernama
