Well... it depends on the engine. EFI engines, in general, pollute much less than older carburated engines, even if you remove the cats. Honda engines, in particular, have very little in terms of emissions even without the cats... earlier Hondas didn't even need them to meet stringent emissions regulations in the US, at a time when the then-new laws were choking the life out of many American engines.

As long as it passes emissions, you're still within your pollutant quota... or if you feel guilty about it... drive less... (one of my favorite anti-anti-SUV arguments... an Expedition driven 5,000 kilometers a year with a full load of passengers still pollutes less and is more fuel efficient than a 1.6 liter sedan driven 25,000 kilometers a year with only the driver in it...)

Another option is to place a high-flowing catalytic converter in place of the stock one.

thanks sir niky, meron pala effect kahit papano, hehe halatang lagi pa-dyno ah! sobra lang kasi tahimik ng stock muffler, lagi kasi may naglalakad sa harap ko na di man lang naririnig na parating ako tas pag busina mo magugulat then sila pa galit. hayz, this often happens in private subdivisions, pero kahit na di ba? they shouldn't be walking in the middle of the street in the first place

Basta JASMA-approved muffler, hindi sobrang ingay at nginig. Straight and canister type mufflers are noisier, so look for oval or chambered ones if you want it more silent.

Also, don't get a muffler with more than 2 inches of inlet diameter, because you'd lose some considerable torque, let alone stock Civics lacking it.

Di ba 1.6 liters ka? Best is really 1 7/8, I believe or 2" nalang. Don't go too high kasi mawawalan ka ng torque for traffic. If your car is an Automatic, definitely don't go higher than 1 7/8.

Depends on the car. Sa Optra, it might be anywhere from 1 5/8" to 1 3/4".

    Rule of thumb is:

    1.6 liters - 1 7/8 - 2"
    2.0 liters - 2.25 - 2.5"

    EDIT: B16A (SiR engine) - 2.25 - 2.5"

If you get piping that's too wide, you lose some torque... but if you get narrow piping, chances are, the crush bends (on local pipes) will lose you some power.
