August 7th, 2016 03:55 AM #614Hi mga sir! Kaka acquire ko lang po ng 5th gen 1997 accord A/T. It has 107k kms on it tas mukang all stock pa from the previous owner.
Very excited po na pagandahin siya.
So far ang napagawa ko palang is pakabit ng tint and palagay ng alarm.
Next up is replace ng grill and pa amber ng corner lamps.
May 2 concerns lang po ako.
Anlakas pala talaga ng consumo niya. 6km/l lang ako. PH22 engine so im guessing 2.2l ung displacement.
Any tips on how to improve this? Dapat ba magpalit ako ng air filter, gas na pinapakarga, spark plug, engine oil?
The other thing is may squeaking sound siya. Parang belt siguro. Or might be the bearings? Mas malakas siya pag cold start.
Any tips on fixing this?
Maraming salamat po!

Be happy with 6km/L. On really bad days with horrendous traffic conditions, that could go down to 5 km/L. Gas consumption is a trade-off Accord owners will have to deal with. It is a better car than the Civic or City. It has better interiors, drives better, more comfortable, stronger suspension, and more powerful engines.
A more relaxed foot on the pedal will regulate gas consumption. Make sure to keep the air filters and air intakes clean. Use better plugs - platinum or iridium. Use 10w40 or 5w40 engine oil. No need to go synthetic, semi-synthetic will do as long as you change them every 5k km. Most Honda engines will accept 91RON fuel but better to go with 95RON to give you better response.
Squeking sound? Upon start? Or upon turning the steering wheel? Or when turning on the aircon? It could be a lot of factors.

August 9th, 2016 03:16 PM #616Thank you sir sa input.
Usually pagkastart meron sound tas mawawala.
Tas naririnig ko siya usually when I step on the gas pedal.
I used to drive a 1998 city and ramdam ko ang pagka premium ng accord.
The other thing na pinoproblema ko ngayon, pag magaan tapak ko ng gas, mag rerev nga siya pero sobrang hina naman ng hila niya. Kelangan tapakan pa ng onti para bumilis unlike the other cars ive driven. Parang di lang proportional ung sound ng engine sa acceleration?

It might be the drive belt. Check it out if it needs replacement. Also, did you ask the previous owner if he changed the timing belt already? If not, change it also together with the water pump.
Regarding the problem of the throttle input against the drive, please have the tranny checked out. It seems to show the initial signs of a sliding tranny. Accords have better throttle response and they don't usually sound stressed in low gears. Honda AT cars of that era are known to have some tranny reliability issues.

September 15th, 2016 04:25 PM #618^ agree with drive belts. a bit loose or worn out belts will cause noise during cold starts (there are two belts on the accord)
Around 5km/L is the normal FC of an accord during heavy traffic. Your high RPM due to slipping tranny will definitely contribute to FC on stop and go situations. Better to have your tranny checked ASAP. Had mine replaced when my old accord was around its 100K km mark.

Get the model with the 2.4L K24 engine, a good balance of performance and fuel consumption. The K20 model is known to be a bit thirsty. If you want more oomph, get the 3.0L V6 model.
The 7th gen has better insulation than the 6th gen but still smaller compared to the much bigger 8th gen. Accords have proven to be reliable and durable unless you ran into some power steering leaks or a sliding tranny.
