July 28th, 2014 02:07 AM #163Hello everyone. newbie here seeking for recommendations. (for Toyota Revo AT 2003 Model)
*2 weeks ago, while driving from Makati going to Cavite bigla nlng nag blink sa dashboard " O/D OFF " (continuously) then i noticed bigla nlng hirap umahon sa flyover ung oto. Since then nawala ung dating arangkada ng sasakyan parang hirap lagi. Everytime na gagamitin after 10mins mag bblink na ung "O/D Off", Pag pa akyat I have to shift from D to 2 or L, I had it checked sa isang kakilala had ATF changed. Pero walang improvement. Only having Problem on D, the rest - P/R/N/2/L/ is perfect.
Is it a major tranny issue that requires rebuild or replacement? or could be something minor considering ung D lang ang may issue?
Would appreciate your expert opinions and recommendations. Thanks and God bless

August 25th, 2014 04:05 AM #164Mel Casaba? Yes, i've known and met this mechanic because of this thread. I've had engine overheating problems with my car and it needed top overhaul according to him. Okay, had my car towed and brought to his shop. Waited for a week and then according to him, it was already done and fixed already. He delivered the car and I did quick inspections of the engine while it was running and I noticed that it had knocking sounds wherein prior handing the car over to him it was not there. Sabi niya, "malamig pa kasi yan, sir" pag uminit na yan, mawawala din. At that time, I already had doubts. So I paid him in full (35k, D/P was 5k) and requested for a receipt and clarified the warranty so just in case I am still protected.
A week had passed, my doubts of the repair prompted me to bring my car to the casa for second opinion since the sound was really bothering me. As per the mechanic who diagnosed my car in honda makati, the noise may be cause of inaccurate timing of the valves aka tappets or tappeta since as per my input to him, it just came from a top overhaul. With my receipt and warranty of repairs at hand, I called Mel and demanded for a back job of my car.
Again, I went to his shop in Cavite explained of my findings of the weird engine knocking noises and advised me to leave the car and wait over a week so that he can do the right valve timings. For added security of any possible unofficial use of my car with its gas tank half full, I decided to clear the trip B just to make sure. A week had passed again, I decided to pickup the car and bring it home myself since this way, I will get to check if the noise was still there. So when i went to his shop, initial greeting was "Sir, okay na!" as per Mel.
So I checked the car, started the engine and voila - I can still hear the knocking noise in the engine. He again said, "sir, baka crankshaft na yan...(pause)....wait mo pa nga till uminit, nawawala kasi yan nung tinest-drive ko eh"
This is the part when I was really starting to get annoyed. I told him, "ikaw mekaniko diba, bakit ako tinatanong mo kung saan ang sira niyan" And he did not say a word after that.
With me really annoyed at that point I went into the car and drove off. Naiinis na ako talaga. Imagine, I came from makati and commuted all the way to cavite only to be asked by a mechanic what other possible problems of the car is?
A few meters driving off from his shop, I noticed something... my gas was almost empty and guess what...my speedometer is stuck at 0 and my aircon...is going..going.....GONE! Literal pinawisan na ako.
With this, I turned around tirona hi way and went back to his shop.
Upon returning to his shop, I called him up again. Sabi ko "bakit di umaakyat yung speedometer ko at nawawala bigla ang aircon? Andito ako sa labas, bumalik ako."
Mel who was trembling of course, opened and the hood adjusted something behind the engine and was also splicing wires maybe it was the wiring of the speedometer..inis na inis na ako that time.
I can say that he had fixed the speedometer temporarily that night, because the next day after when i drove the car. Speedometer was not working, again..good thing the aircon was. So when I went to my "suking" car wash for my weekly wash, the car wash boy noticed two deep dings on the rear passenger side, and right rear rims had deep gutter scratches which btw, all my rims are free from gutter marks...sa sobrang init ng ulo ko bumili nalang ako ng softdrinks at napayosi. (and i did quit smoking a year, that was my first stick for 2014)
So for anyone of you here who are thinking of availing the services of Mel Casaba aka "Honda Specialist". Think! Think! Think Again!

October 5th, 2014 06:52 AM #166Good day to all, new tsikot.com member here. I have a problem with my Toyota altis 02 automatic transmission. replaced filter and complete ATF dialysis sa banawe but still it has shift shock from N to drive but smooth on 3rd and 4th gear (no check engine light on or blinking OD). Scanned with OBD2, no fault code.
Read all the comments from start to this page regarding Mel. Unfortunately, after reading all your comments sa last page pa nagkaroon ng negative feedback.
To cut the story short, I went to Mel in bacoor cavite, diagnosis nya is to overhaul the transmission. Pinasok ko na sa shop ng Thursday and told me 3 to 4 days gagawin. Called me up yesterday (Saturday) to pick-up the car. After the test drive I can say the overhaul was successful. Smooth shifting again. Price wise, labor cost lang binayaran ko, akin ang materials. I'm satisfied with his work. Neat shop!
Good job Mel! Hindi lang pang honda, pwede rin sa toyota!
Thank you tsikot.com admin and members, with this thread nakilala ko si Mel.

siya ba bibili ng parts or ikaw? mura lang mga seals ang medyo pricey diyan yung tensioner bearing sa timing belt.. tsaka medyo matrabaho magpalit ng timing belt nyan civic es... if i may suggest, since magpapalit ka ng timing belt, idamay mo na the ff (kasi nakakalas na rin lang yung engine side ng makina mo)
crankshaft oil seal
camshaft oil seal
power steering belt
alternator belt
water pump
(for your peace of mind din yan at isang gawaan na lang)
as much as possible.. get OEM... yung waterpump kahit gmb ok naman. pero for the other parts especially the seals, get OEM

^^ better get a second opinion na lang bro to be sure.
mel was one of the mechanics i consulted last summer re my tranny problem and i found his findings and explanations wanting so i skipped on to another shop and on to another former honda tech (his contemporary apparently) who i felt was more adept and more equipped to handle my problem
