We don't want speed, we want the brutal knock you back in your seat acceleration.

Sabi nga ni Jeremy Clarkson (non verbatim), we all have experienced 280 km/h thanks to airplanes, pero it's how we reach that speed which makes it memorable. Which brings us back to my first point.

That's what people said in 2004 when the Mazda 3 2.0R came out - too many toys, masisira lang yan.

Well my Mazda 3 is 15 years old now and all those toys still work. Sunroof? Still working. Auto headlamps? Still working. Rain-sensing wipers? Still working. Climate control? Still working.

Nauna pa bumigay transmission kaysa sa mga toys na yan, which to me are all useful.

While driving dynamics are still paramount for me, I still find today's new features a welcome addition. For my Civic, I really find the remote start functionality useful on a hot day. Cruise control? Very useful in SCTEX/TPLEX driving. Hill start assist? Very useful in stop and go traffic and inclines. Android Auto? Very very useful in day to day driving.

Sunroof niya? Tumutulo na? Yung hill start assist ok yan, safety feature yan. Yung mga rain sensing wiper, auto headlights some of the most useless features IÂ’ve ever seen put in a car. Yung auto park and lane keep assist, useful for noobies. But really they only serve to jack up the price. I mean are people really lazy today that they canÂ’t even be bothered to move their hand to turn the headlight on. 😂.

Carmakers should add auto-on turn indicators. They'll make millions.

And yes I see lots of noobs running around with their headlights off at night. I blame the fancy-shmancy always-on dash in these new-fangled thingamajigs.

Edit: and a feature that makes a vehicle blow up if it's running in the rain with the hazards on.

On the flipside, there are people who opt not to turn off their automatic headlights and end up being idiots if they forget to turn them on when dark. Others turn it off thinking it will drain their batteries.

Hmm? Di pa naman tumutulo sunroof ng Mazda 3 ko. The sliding mechanism also still works well too.

Rain sensing wipers are nice to have because it automatically adjusts wipe frequency depending on the severity of the rain, which right now in my other car I have to adjust the variable intermittent wipe every 3 minutes or so depending on weather changes.

Auto headlights, useful for tunnels and dark parking lots. Can be done manually yes but most people will forget to do so having the car do it for you adds convenience.

Both features, can live without, but nice to have. From experience, both features do not negatively affect longevity of the car because they do not break down prematurely. Obviously these are not dealbreakers for making a purchase and buyers are free to buy a lower end variant without these features if they want.

My previous car was a 1.6G Altis which had none of these features and it served me fine, but I have zero regrets going for a more expensive car that has more convenience features. Again, to each his own.

Our Ranger has that rain-sensing wiper feature. We never use it. It’s annoying and overly sensitive. Nabagsakan ng branch yung windshield one time, it cost us 60k to replace it kasi kasali yung sensor. As I said, these features are just an excuse for manufacturers to jack up the price and make money out of it once (or if) it needs replacing.

That may well be true but progress is progress. And all these manufacturers are adding features to differentiate themselves from the competition. Once upon a time, these features were born into being thru R&D and the desire to compete or remain competitive. We all benefit with these plethora of features. And believe me these guys spend a ton on Quality control. Their brand image hinges on these things.

Even in your own businesses ----whatever the industry----- you dont stand still. You look for ways to give value to your customers or extract a competitive advantage over your hungry adversaries. Necessity and competition are the drivers of innovation.

    I can assure you....you dont innovate....you die.

Also had a Ranger and found the rain sensing wipers very useful. I usually put it on the least sensitive setting and it worked fine for my preference. Used to drive a lot of provincial roads with varying weather conditions and having it adjust for you is a great convenience.

Have not had any broken windshields, but in the event of such, pareho lang naman ang participation sa insurance whether 5k or 60k ang windshield replacement.
