Atenista post away!

Sadly ang daming banong mag-park (expected na rin siguro kasi college students), yung slots na kaya sana 3 cars nagiging for 2 nalang.

Meron pa ring parking sa cornfield pero malayo kasi yun from most of the buildings so usually mga driver lang nagpapark dun. JSEC (not sure if naabutan mo) ang laging pinagaagawang parking :|

*jut703: With the strong competition today, after college, your Ateneo diploma will barely get you your first job, after that, you're as good as your last performance. ;) I started at the bottom of the corporate barrel and am working my way up.

*junerski: panay alikabok lang yung playground nuon. Pag suntukan sa East Field... wala pa bang airconditioned boxing ring ngayon para sa mga away? :D

In college, madaya ako sa parking. Sa Gonzaga ako lagi since my sister is a prof. and she rides to school with me most of the time so i could park at the Faculty Parking. Nung panahon ko, parking of last resort for students was SEC, ngayon, regular parking na rin siya talaga. Time to build an efficient parking building if you ask me.

Ateneo's trying to solve the parking issue by encouraging more people to carpool. It works for those from Alabang, but other nearer places, asa naman.

Regarding employment, there was even an issue earlier this year during our annual job fair, with those from the School of Humanities and the School of Social Science rallying that Ateneo is inclined towards the School of Management. SOM-centric daw. My take on the issue is that these people enter their respective courses with full knowledge of what they're getting into. They say that Ateneo shouldn't merely ride the trend of the corporate world which favors management grads over, say, lit grads. But I think that it's too idealistic - you can't mass hire if you're not a big company, and to clamor for more NGOs, publishing companies, etc to be as prominent in job fairs as multinationals is unrealistic.

    * that rally thing: I have a batchmate who's a prof there now and he was quite pissed with that issue. Welcome to the real world was his message, don't expect to have everything fall into your lap. Through experience also, i am a bit wary of hiring blue chip school graduates since these guys tend to job hop as fast as they can and one thing we value in the two companies I've worked at in the last 8 years is loyalty.

True, you know what you're getting into and I myself, being in IS, took the Management and Comm tracks to ensure i would get exposure in the field of business despite my course being in the School of Humanities. When i was job hunting, i really went through a long process of tests, interviews and being beaten by a prettier face (well... uhm, chicks naman talaga kasi eh :D) and got a job where i had to work myself to a good position eventually. My next job was already something offered to me due to the experience i gained and the relations i've built.

Totoo yan, I'm not sure if it was present at your time, but one of the messages that profs try to impart to fresh grads now is not to be impatient. Marami kasing feeling nila porket Ateneo sila dapat ang taas na kagad ng posisyon nila. Admittedly upon entering college I thought similarly, but I've slowly learned that you can't just rest on your laurels and expect the future to be all rainbows and butterflies.

At the end of the day, simple lang naman eh - work smart and stay driven, and you'll go a long way.

^LOL, i started with 8.5K per month in 2003 (16 months guaranteed pay with some allowances). But hey that's banking.

How old would have Coach Chris been? Late 40s or 50+ na rin siguro?

My bro-in-law is graduating this weekend. They're the first batch of the Med Students to walk out of the Ateneo and take their boards this August. He's seriously contemplating on becoming a Jesuit though (my mother-in-law almost fainted when he told her). :D

10k a month in 1999 in IT. Pahirapan din makakuha ng first job especially since di naman ganun kaganda ang grades ko ::giveup::boring::sleep2::tvcomedy:

Go Jesuits! One of my batchmates is now a priest but he was the one we least expected to be called. His dad was an Army general and when we were still in high school in Davao he was usually fetched by a Humvee and had his own personal bodyguard. He almost got shot by the school dorm security guard because he climbed through the barbed wire in the wee hours after visiting a girl. He made his combat-scarred dad cry when he entered the novitiate.
