Why Singapore has the smartest kids in the world
    Amanda Sealy, CNN
    October 5, 2015

Singapore (CNN) It's a world-class teacher's pet -- a straight-A student that's top of the class: Singapore is officially the country with the smartest high-school kids in the world.

The country's academic success has helped it become a thriving economy, and the way it has built its education system could hold lessons for the rest of the world.

"Singapore is a fascinating case," said Marc Tucker, the president of the U.S. National Center on Education and the Economy. "[It] was a major British port before the Second World War. When Britain got out and closed its base Singapore was in terrible shape.

"Now today they are one of the best performing economies in the entire world. They did it largely with education and training."

If Singapore's rags-to-riches transition was built on education, the secret of its education system is the quality of its teachers. "They source their teachers from among the best kids coming out of their high schools," explained Tucker.
The importance of education is instilled at a young age -- before children even get to primary school.

7 years on, ganun pa din isyu ng bansa natin. As long as we practice patronage politics and keep on voting the same people into power, don't expect much to change.

Honestly, when some people talk about how somebody cut in line, paid off government officials, etc., it's often with a hint of pride/admiration instead of shame/condemnation. Siyempre pag nahuli e ikukundena yan.but a lot of time pinagyayabang pa nila yung kalokohang ginawa kesa tumahimik na lang.

.....it's almost as if we've accepted a fair level of corruption as part of being Filipino. And in some sick sense of fair play, we allow others to be corrupt, so that we won't feel too bad when we do something corrupt.

And if the parents think that way, most likely the kids will, and they will unconsciously teach their kids, and so on and so on.

Sa pinas. Over use ang harapatan.

Overuse ng TRO, the Lina Law, ineptitude of officials, graft and corruption, general apathy of the population, overall a chronic lack of love for country.

"Kamay na bakal" may not even be enough to free us from this quagmire.

    But there is hope:

    Privatization.

Privatize everything, including the parks and forests, the swamplands and the immediate seashore...

In time, all will be as beautiful as BGC and SM MOA are right now.
