More seriously, though, I doubt Summit will make Vernon resign. It was a very bad mistake, but it was not one committed solely by TGPh. I heard that GMA also got in on it.

Many of my Facebook friends and acquaintances also posted the guy's FB account. The moment one private "investigator" matched the conduction sticker to an FB account, it spread like wildfire.

That said, I personally would not have posted it until final confirmation, disclaimer or not. I did not even COMMENT on the issue in FB until more was known... because I didn't know enough about it to comment.

USUALLY, Vernon will tell us we need to double check to be sure about these things. Our article about the Toyota transmission issues, we had to wait a week to get "both sides" of the story. We've been burned before, so we are usually careful.

"Usually" being the operative word. In this case, I suppose that since the conduction and type of car (down to color and variant) matched, people thought it was close enough to be sure. Apparently that was not the case. And even with all the necessary disclaimers put into the article, the damage was still done.

I cannot speak for Vernon or what he is going through at the moment. I, for one, would be devastated if that happened under my watch and I was the one who pulled the trigger (figuratively speaking). I do believe that he had good intentions, but the pressures of keeping current in fast-moving social media might have played a part in this.

In the end... this is what I hate about the Digong Presidency and modern culture... oo nga... may mga biktima... but if you go around taking justice into your own hands, how sure are you that the person you are pointing fingers... or worse... bullets... at, is truly the guilty party?

Kaya nga may due process... because if you kill a killer, the number of killers in the world remains the same... but if you kill an innocent man, you've just added another killer to the list.
if ever as in if ever they get off the hook with this one, and they resume their ways, i'm sure mas malaki ang bawi sa kanila next time. so they'd better think this through carefully

FB can be requested to undelete those posts kung may na-malign na tao. i bet TGPH don't know this pero this has happened several times in America.

but a good hot shot lawyer doesn't need this, dami pwede mag-witness oh, hello it's a nationwide scandal.

the posts being taken down is already a sign of guilt or cover-up.

According to Yu, he first spotted the two men on Arlegui Street with Tanto chasing Garalde before cutting him off on Casal Street. He said both were fuming mad (“gigil na gigil”) as they had an exchange, which prompted Tanto to get off his car.

Then the two-minute fistfight ensued. Other witnesses who refused to be identified said onlookers cheered as the two men fought, with some saying they did not intervene because both men were obviously “parehong matapang” or spoiling for a fight.

Tanto appeared to have suffered the worst beating, based on the footage taken by a security camera in the area. He stepped back and returned to his car while Garalde walked back to his bike.

Yu said the spectators thought it was over—but Garalde stuck his head inside the vehicle and said something to Tanto.

He added that Garalde was again walking away when he looked back and yelled at Tanto, “You son of a b—h! What do you want, come here!”

Tanto responded, Yu said, by again getting out of his car—this time with a gun—and saying: “What now?”

The case investigator, SPO2 Charles Duran of the Manila Police District (MPD) homicide division, said a woman was in the car with Tanto that night. She remained unidentified “but definitely she’s not the wife,” Duran said.

Bystanders said the woman shouted at Tanto, telling him not to shoot Garalde.

It sounds Garalde had it coming. A little side comment can cost your life. There is always wisdom to the old adage: Quit while you are ahead.

This was how a witness, Bryan Yu, recalled the encounter between the two men who traded punches and "nothing but angry words" before Tanto finished the fight with his pistol.

Tanto responded, Yu said, by again getting out of his car---this time with a gun---and saying: "What now?"

Honestly, if I took a beating, gave up the fight, went back to my car, but my opponent followed and later called me "******-ina," the possibility would be very high that I would exactly do what Tonto did to Garalde.

and that is the danger of having guns.

but... ano ba talaga ang sinabi niya sa bintana?

and i would be interested in the background of the victim.

    That is very true.

But, it got me thinking. According to the PNP, Tonto had in his name three FAs: two .45 cal and one .40 cal. That will tell you something of his profile, but why did he not shoot Garalde in the face as soon as he got down from his vehicle? Why he engaged Garalde first in a fisticuffs where he took a beating?

Most probably, he did not have the intent to kill when he came down and confronted Garalde.

It was only when he got inside back to his car, where Garalde followed him and stuck his head into the window, said something, walked away and uttered "putangina," that Tonto got out and killed Garalde.
