POC's Jeff Tamayo: Ang Talangka at Salot ng Dragon Boat Team

Phil Canoe/Kayak Fed (PCKF) is the break away group, newly formed lang ito. Phil Dragon Boat Fed (PDBF) has been there for a long time under the guidance of Mr Nestor Ilagan. POC wants actually someone to head the PDBF kaso hindi nila maiupo un gusto nila sa PDBF kaya nagtayo sila ng PCKF at ayun nandun na un sunod-sunuran na gusto ng POC.

Ngayon lang nagkaroon ng issue ang IOC sa dragonboat kasi nakilala na at dumarami nang bansa ang nahihilig dito. AFAIk, within the region lang natin at asian countries lang ang nagcocompete sa sports na ito and after introducing it to the west dun lang pinick up ng IOC.

Dragonboat competitions is sanctioned by Intl Dragonboat Fed (IDBF) which IOC does not recognized because of lack of required number of countries before it can be acknowledged by IOC as a sports to be part of the olympics. So now, IOC needs only to fill up the required number of countries who will join the dragonboat to be acknowledged as an olympic sports. Its only a matter of time na lang na ma-aacknowledged na ang Intl Dragonboat Fed (IDBF) because numerous countries is signifying their intentions to make this dragonboat as part of the olympics.

By saying this, we can have a legit team na pure pinoy na magkakaroon ng medalya sa olympics at hindi masasayang ang suporta ng POC at PSC dito, if ever maayos ang gusot.

sidenote: grabe ang training ng cobra-national team (PDBF) because i did try to row with them, gasuka ako after the 500mtrs run, way back 2003. I had that opportunity because their coach back then was also our coach in the commercial team that i am part of.

another thing, pag minerge sila with PCKF ibaba ang sweldo ng officials at maliit narin ang allowance ng members unlike sa PDBF.

Take note: all the boats of PDBF were all taken by PCKF. Commercial and school teams who are into dragonboat ay hati din, some are under PCKF and others are with PDBF. Kaya naman PSC, POC at PDBF please sana maayos na ito.

Jeff Tamayo may have been under obligation or pressure from his associates at PKCF/POC to come out with a press statement favorable to themselves, that's completely understandable.

What is beyond comprehension though, is how he did not realize that speaking out directly against the PDBF and making light of their win right when they are being welcomed as heroes would turn out to be a PR disaster for the himself, the PKCF and the POC. Far from buying any credibility, they now come off as spiteful, jealous and highly political. His comments have only served to further lionize the PDBF, and IMO rightly so.

This was certainly a case of haste, and a lot of stupid. The clever option in Jeff Tamayo's case would have been to bide his time, perhaps reading some Sun Tzu until the fervor over PDBF's win has had time to die down before releasing any press statements trying to discredit them.
