I think the local media outfits should also produce videos similar to this that is fit to the philippine setting ie: involving buses and motorcycles, the more gruesome and morbid the better, nothing changes a person's actions better than outright fear, they should show it in between wowowee and scare the sh*t out of those irresponsible road users.

Right driving education and the governments strong will to prosecute all road violators is very much needed. I wonder when can we have those rescue fleets?

The videos wouldn't work here (especially with the younger drivers) unless it's after the fact and an accident/death had already happened.
Here, what seems to work is traffic cameras and stiff penalties for speeding. Back in AZ, they just completed the installation of traffic cameras.
Penalties for speeding start at $217 for 11 mph over the posted speed limit and just goes up from there. Running a red light or failing to do a complete stop at a red light before making a right turn will cost you $400.
You don't get a traffic stop. You get a court date/statement of fine on the mail (and nice color photos* of the offense and offender) and have a set time to respond. The only time the cops will get involved is when the time is up and they come over to arrest you. No arguing, nothing. You go straight to the slammer.
*Just like this one
Add: The penalties I cited are based from dollar amounts paid by friends who got caught.Last edited by Jun aka Pekto; September 18th, 2009 at 03:54 AM.
