the principle of the u-turn section might be good. but the implementation isnt so well done. vehicles from the right-most swirl to the left-most, cutting the middle lane, while the left-most swirling to the middle or right most to avoid those u-turn sections. causing chaos the whole stretch.

a good example is the quezon ave.. some of the wider sections are ok. but those narrower areas are just bad.

in other countries where you have those u-turn sections, the roads are designed to be that way. you have a dedicated lane with markers or small islands to separate it from the main fast lane.. some u-turn lanes are even further into the main island section so the normal fast lane (inner most) isnt affected.

pero bottomline, wala lang talaga discipline mga drivers.. be u-turn scheme or the intersection scheme.

I have to say that the U-turn slots have generally reduced my travel time a lot.

the problem with these u-turn slots is that they sometimes take more lanes than those going straight ahead. take for instance around sm north/trinoma. 2 lanes are allotted for the u-turn and 3 for those who are not. but usually, 3 or 4 lanes are taken by those taking the u-turn. ayaw kasi nila pumila ng mahaba so sisingit sila sa harap. and then, katapat halos ng u-turn slots na ito yung concrete barriers for the buses. so the fast lane that should have been going straight is again reduced. sometimes only 1 lane na lang. and the biggest headache here is the large number of mmda/police enforcers present at these areas NOT doing their job.

yup this is true. anoman ang kundisyon ng kalsada, kung balahura ang mga driver (which is also a result of lack of enforcement) lang mangyayari.

but i think it works naman, nagbobottle neck lang kapag yung mga outer lane ay kinakain na rin ng mga di makapaghintay. kaya halos isa na lang lane natitira minsan for the ones going straight. (Q ave near national bookstore, for example)
