Road widening in the Phil., just draw more lines.

Not sure if the same for other locales, but I wouldn't trust lane markings done by this DPWH division. A lot of areas where the markings narrow to the point that even passenger cars will make contact. Without warning.

Still, something to be said about these 3 bus drivers having a "professional" license.

Well, they were all within their assigned lanes.

The assessment that this road should only have 2 lanes, knowing that buses (wide vehicles) are legally allowed on this road, is correct. Many are quick to pass judgment on the bus drivers without considering all the factors.

This highlights the lack of planning, standardization, and oversight about these tiny details (no pun intended). We have a lot of signages and lane markings that are either nonsensical, leads to nowhere, or are even unsafe.... case in point, the three buses above.

Other areas handled by this DPWH unit are even more dangerous. Quick, twisting roads that suddenly narrow without warning are common.

Still, absolving the drivers of fault is a bit of a stretch, don't you think? Most non pro drivers know when to back off when they see they won't fit on the road ahead.

Even more damning is the fact that these guys are supposed to be pros and traverse the same roads every day.

Ultimately, they are partly to blame, yes.

But I tend to look at the big picture. If you’re not safe even if you stay inside your lane, something is fundamentally wrong with the system. You can reprimand these drivers but it doesn’t change the fact that if this problem continue to exist, similar accidents in various levels of severity... from side mirrors contacting, to fender benders, or as extreme as one that involves an MC (ouch!)... will be prone to happen again.

if it is difficult in broad daylight,
think how it is at night!

    btw,
it used to be a two-lane roadway.
the original, covered-up lane separator is still visible at the center of the road, albeit now blackened.
and the concrete lane dividers at the center of the wide road, ate up some of the lane's diameter, further compounding the issue.

so what was the logic in re-painting them lane separators, to make it appear that the road is now three lanes wide instead of only two?

with a minimum of investment ("paint"), one can claim to having (constructed) more roads.
    at least, on paper.

a few months ago, someone recommended that more lane dividers be painted onto edsa, to make, among other reasons, the lanes narrower and force motorists into driving more slowly, thus avoiding fender-benders.

You made the right choice. A lot buy suv nowadays. But the parking slots are not designed for them.

Don't you just love those people who park stupidly?
