    Carjackers strike in Makati

Suspected carjackers armed with rifles struck in Makati City on Sunday night, victimizing a couple who were on their way home, ABS-CBN News learned.

Police said the couple, who declined to be identified, were in a Honda City sedan (ADS 207) when a Toyota Vios (ZAV 718) cut their path past 8 p.m. in Barangay Pinagkaisahan.

The couple said one of the suspects who alighted from the Vios was wearing a shirt marked "Special Weapons and Tactics." The other two carried rifles and a duffle bag, the victims added.

The couple said that the men took their car at gunpoint and abandoned the Vios.

Policemen responding to the scene found the abandoned car with bullet holes and traces of blood in the front seat.

Investigators said the carjackers could have used the victims' sedan as a getaway vehicle.

A police monitor is underway to check on robberies that could be tied up with Sunday's carjacking.

A MALACAÑANG executive lost his Mitsubishi Pajero to car thieves on Sunday, the official said Monday.

Press Undersecretary Robert Rivera said his sports utility vehicle (MTA 222) model 2000 was parked in the garage of his house at the La Marea village in San Pedro town, Laguna province when his maid discovered that it was missing at around 6 a.m. on Sunday.

San Pedro police and members of Anti-Carnapping Task Force Limbas said the car thieves could have used an electronic gadget that opened the vehicle's doors.

Rivera said he was told that syndicates usually used high-tech gadgets in their operations. He added that the stolen vehicles were shipped either to Sabah, Malaysia or Indonesia to be resold.

Rivera said he did not know why his vehicle was stolen.

He said the car thieves did not touch the Hyundai Grace van parked outside his house.
