MANILA, Philippines -- After more than a month of keeping a low profile, car thieves appear to be back in Quezon City.
Inspector Angelo Nicolas said two armed men forcibly took a sports utility vehicle at around 5:30 a.m. at Scout Chuatoco.
The carjackers took from Marvin Bagsik, a family driver, a 2004 model black Nissan Patrol with plate number XRW-998.
The chief of Quezon City’s anti-car theft unit called on parents and drivers to help police in the fight against car thieves by being more conscious of their surroundings and taking preventive measures to avoid ending up as victims.
The police official said the SUV was parked in front of the house of the vehicle owner in a residential area in the village of Roxas, Quezon City.
Nicolas said the driver, who was inside the vehicle, was forced out of the SUV by the robbers.
Nicolas said the drop in car theft cases in the city was the result of the police’s campaign for improved public awareness.
He added that owners were encouraged to invest in such devices as safety and alarm devices and GPS (Global Positioning System) to track stolen vehicles.
