Yung programs kasi nya na pampaganda ng Metro Manila, ang kalaban nya puro greedy businessmen.

dapat matagal nang inilayo ang mga billboards sa highways. From the looks of it, mukhang hindi rin certified nor educated mga nag-design nito. Basta nakaisip na welding frame, salpak tarp, lagay ilaw, ok na.

am i the only one that finds it odd that nowhere is there any reference to what company advertised on or owned the billboard?

I've noticed but the reason actually lies in the money circling around the media industry and business industries here.

the problem with most of the "news" journalists here is that they're a part of a bigger corporate network, which, sometimes, affects the way they deliver "news".

MMDA can’t touch billboards in metro

The Metro Manila Development Authority admitted yesterday that it could not stem the growing number of commercial billboards that clutter Metro Manila’s roadways because it is the local government units that issue permits for its construction.

MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando said they could only appeal to mayors to be strict in the issuance of building permits to advertisers and their contractors.

“We don’t even know if we have authority over those advertisements. Normally, it’s LGUs that issue the necessary permits. As for the MMDA we’re still reviewing our laws and see if there are prohibitions or some kind of control we could enforce against the advertisers,” Fernando said.

The MMDA chief’s seeming reluctance to act on the billboards appeared to be a reversal of his earlier vow to rid the main thoroughfares — supposedly the MMDA’s jurisdiction — of distracting structures.

A court recently barred MMDA from touching the outdoor advertisements put up by the Metro Manila Transit Corp.

During yesterday’s MMDA radio program, motorists asked the MMDA to do something about the billboards along Edsa, most of which feature ***y models in skimpy clothes.

As if mocking the MMDA, a Bench-Body billboard of actress Kris Aquino in almost see-through blouse and with her fly open was installed at the corner of Edsa and Orense Streets in Makati City, directly facing the agency’s main office.

Fernando himself admitted that these structures distract motorists, often causing them to slow down just to take a look at the attention-grabbing commercials.

The tarpaulin itself is not typhoon-proof and strong winds can blow it off their steel skeletal frame and down on the traffic below, according to Fernando.

“These billboards indeed pose dangers to the motorists but we are still determining what the MMDA could do to regulate them,” he pointed out.

Early this year, four persons were hurt and several parked vehicles were damaged on Edsa at Guadalupe in Makati City after a billboard collapsed at the height of a storm. Ferdinand Fabella
The court order was applied for by Trackworks Rail Transit Advertising, Vending and Promotions Inc. at the MRT.

    Tarpaulin? How about the frame.

Remember how the photographer was killed in The Omen 666. Workman's hammer slides down roof. Hits frame of sign fastened to side of building. Rusted bolt breaks. Sign falls down like a swing and decapitates photographer.

It wasn't even a big sign.

Maybe one of these billboards needs to behead a pedestrian or driver before something will be done? Crushing or 'injuries' probably not dramatic enough to grab attention -- has to be decapitation, no? Or getting speared, like the priest.
