Agree here! If only we had an efficient means of mass transport like HK, SG, etc., a lot of us wouldn't mind leaving our rides at home. Again, it's still boils down to the basics of providing efficient mass transport.
Paano yan LSB? Vios nalang maiiwan sa garahe? :D Or you'll buy an SL na? Perfect for those weekend banzai runs out of town with the wifey.

Bumili muna Sila ng brand new trains bago Sila mag isip mag ban ng older cars.
Another gusto nila sumabit din sa train mga tao.
Saan ba na industry growth gusto nila? sa Korea? Thailand?

February 17th, 2013 04:17 PM #109Jeepneys should have been phased out a long time ago. This is a persistent point of poor planning and political pandering.
Any gains from such a program will be short-term locally because the level of income, availability of financing/credit bureaus, aren't as conducive just yet for a sustained car market.
The difference with the US market is that cars are a commodity and they only depreciate to a point wherein as long as it runs it will have value. An 18 year old Nissan Patrol will still fetch $2500-3500 cash in a private sale. Unless you go to carmax where you get book value.
As long as a car is repairable it will be used here. That is why environmental taxes are levied on older vehicles in some markets but no one seems to have paid attention to the fact that there's only so far you can go with restricting emissions until the benchmark plateaus.
If the local industry needs to be stimulated then it has to be for the right reasons. Competitiveness, quality, and general viability.
An immediate area that can be helped with incentives would be for aftermarket of local car parts. Curtailing smuggling and restricting the importation of used vehicles would be a good place to start as well.
