Curiously is Dr Francisco Sarabia connected to the optical shop chain with the same name?
The current majority owner, AFAIK, of Sarabia Optical is Dr. Vivian Sarabia. Kliyente kasi namin siya. But the victim could be related to her though.

Wala ng yellow-yellow lane kasi the incident happened at 3am.

The doctor's name would be withheld until his family shall have been informed of the incident.
According to DZBB, the doctor was Dr. Federico Sarabia.
This is something that local media should learn: they should not give the name/s of the vitim/s in public, until the close relatives have been informed. Bulok talaga ang mga mediamen dito, hindi marunong ng ethical journalism.

According to the news report just now, he's the cousin of Dr. Vivian Sarabia, owner of Sarabia Optical.

^^ were you watching TV Patrol?

In the report, there was another bus driver who confessed on air that he was continually retaking the examination after numerous violations. I bet he's somewhere out there, plying EDSA.

I don't think the neurological exam would be of any use preventing future accidents such as these. Pwede pa kasing dayain yon (kung written, nako may mga "sample exams" ilalako sa labas ng LTO). Better enforcement of traffic rules is the way to go.

I still think provincial buses are scarier.

I second that. Grabe, going to Ilocos, halos 3x ako banggain ng mga provincial buses. They cut you like they're on motorbikes. Wow di ba?

Bus driver Martinito Madrid was interviewed while in custody of the police. Di daw sinasadya at naghihingi ng tawad sa pamilya ni Dr. Sarabia. Parati huli ang pagsisi sa mga di nagiisip. The driver was supposed to be suspended since last April...

    Life goes on at EDSA...

Good news to bus drivers: No speed limit along EDSA

The sky is the limit in EDSA!

Chairman Bayani Fernando of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said Wednesday that the agency has not imposed a speed limit along EDSA, the main highway across Metro Manila.

"There's no specific speed limit," Fernando told ABS-CBN's morning show, "Umagang Kay Ganda," adding that the MMDA is still in studying traffic along the longest highway in the capital region.

He said in a highway like EDSA the speed limit is usually 100 kilometers per hour. "That's really fast, but that is the usual speed limit on highways."

Before dawn Tuesday, Dr. Francisco "Toto" Sarabia burned to death after a racing bus crashed into his car, which instantly exploded during the impact.

Footage taken by ABS-CBN News on Wednesday dawn showed speeding buses and private cars along EDSA. It was as if the tragic road accident that killed the doctor did not happen.

Sarabia's Mercedes Benz was following a bus, which was parked outside the loading and unloading bay of EDSA in front of Camp Aguinaldo, when a speeding Joana Jesh bus crashed into it.

The Mercedes Benz's gas tank exploded and created a blaze that totally gutted the vehicle and killed the doctor. The doctor's legs were reportedly cut off at the impact and he was already unconscious when the fire consumed his body.

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN News also caught on video a Joana Jesh bus plying the northbound lane of Cubao, Quezon City.

This, despite the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) issued a 30-day suspension on the Joana Jesh Transport.

LTFRB Chairman Thompson Lantion said the agency issued the suspension pending the investigation on the possible neglect of the bus company, which could have led to the freak road accident.
