The problem with Proton is that they make a comfortable earning selling cars locally in Malaysia. Because there is no importation tax, they actually make a large profit margin while being very competitive with foreign car manufacturers. Basically, this cockiness in being able to sell cars based on the price point stifles development of truly competitive cars.

Once they open their eyes truly to the international market, the build quality should improve.
