It's difficult to harness the wind because it could possibly blow the car over it's side or off the road. The solar cars typically run on narrow tires which offer very little rolling resistance as well as little sideways resistance.

The solar cars are also built light, so light that typical road cross winds can blow them over if you incorporate some sort of wind sails or damage a lightweight designed frame structure.

The only areas where you can incorporate some sort of "sail" design is in the wheel aprons but even those would be meant to lower wind resistance than to tap the power of the wind itself.

    something like this?:

solar cells and the sail is merged into one

but it's not feasible for a solar car as pointed by Ghosthunter. It is heavy and could possibly reduce the integrity (strength) of the body. plus madaming obstruction sa daan baka kung saan pa sumabit yan.

I was thinking more of something around this line:

    Attachment 9697

    Attachment 9698

You'll find more pictures at www.landsailing.net

Yung 1 may cockpit pa, just like the solar car... Well, these things can go really really fast! I was kinda thinking of starting with one of these as the base car then build the solar panels and the motor thingees around the basic landsailing yacht so that we don't lose the landsailing yacht's power to hardness the wind Eventually, when the batteries go dry, we can also use the wind's energy to recharge the batteries too

I am very happy that Sinag completed the race and on the first try.

They have proven that the Filipino can. And now, the next goal will be winning the race.
