gawa muna. try and try until you die or you succeed. kasi either way dun lang kayo ma-konsider na tutoong bayaning pinoy. ni hindi pa binebenta, puro patriotism.

MVPMAP will be putting out a 2nd prototype and they heard everyone's feedback. At least all this discussion has lead to something positive. Hopefully the phuv v.2 will show a lot of improvements.

Hasnt this been done already? Although not 100% tax free. And it didnt work as even Honda CRVs became AUVs just so it could get the tax breaks. Even if its impossible to fit 10 persons in it. Tax breaks based on percentage of locally manufactured contents would be better I think.

July 12th, 2007 11:45 AM #356Kung tax breaks lang ang pag-uusapan, and to generate more jobs, and to pump more blood in our manufacturing sector, what should be done is:
1. lower or remove tariffs on new capital equipments for manufacturing such as robotic machines, larger capacity cnc machines and such...
2. promote technical education, such as what some private groups do in line with Don Bosco Technical Institute, so we will have a market for highly skilled manufacturing workers- at para di lang puro oversupplied job sector workers ang lumalabas sa mga colleges like masscom graduates.
3. offer tax breaks to auto companies that are willing to expand their operations here. as long as they provide a certain number of new employment and a manufacturing base- not just trading base.
Just imagine: If just one brand (Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Ford/Mazda, etc) expand their operations here and decide to manufacture even just 2 to 3 more model variants in the Philippines, hindi na natin kelangan isipin gumawa ng isang PhUV which in the big picture will sell only a fraction of what the big companies will sell, hence MORE JOBS to the people.
But for the PhUV- good luck to the people who are producing it. I mean it. Sana makagawa sila ng AT THE LEAST isang matino at desenteng entry-level na sasakyan. Yung v.1.0 nila- aminin na natin, di mabebenta yan. Sayang lang investments nila kung yan lang ang gawa nila. They could definitely do better.

July 12th, 2007 06:22 PM #357arggh, hence I suggested incentives based on locally sourced components.
adidboy, you're on the right track.
We need a very strong tool and die industry to support manufacturing, but its a chicken and egg situation. Tool and die will not be around unless there's a demand or there are subsidies for it.
Then again a failed venture cost us tax payers a lot of money when it was abandoned. I forgot the name of the project, but our engineers still lament its demise. It would have been simply beautiful to have had such a critical vertebrate to support Philippine industry.
Just about every industrialized nation is able to produce their own automated systems as well as their own tools with precision.
I think this is exactly what the PHUV is missing. MVPMAP can clearly see the benchmark and the learning curve. But instead of finding a way to at least meet that benchmark and overcome the curve, it came out with the PHUV rather haphazardly.
One must design a product with passion, especially a motor vehicle. It must inspire, it must exude privilege, it must rouse desire and generate passion.
That is why a brand new Sarao is still more of an art piece than the PHUV, despite practically sharing the same engineering principles.

July 12th, 2007 07:08 PM #358mali kase yung name nito, medyo nakaka misguide.. kung bakit kase tinawag na "Pinoy Utility Vehicle" to e.. kaya tuloy lumabas yung pagkamakabayan nung iba sa atin..
next time para sa MVPMAP or campi can you guys choose a different name? something like Campi eagle or MVPMAp bulldog.. something like that..
akala kase nung iba tulad anti Filipino yung iba.. baka pagsimulan pa ng civil war to..heheeh..

1. Ang alam ko you can get a bare L300 for 538K. I seem to have seen it in some newspaper ad a couple months ago
2. I agree with EVO-V etc. MVPMAP asking for tax incentives is an outrage. Dami akong ganyan na nakikita. A bunch of businessmen think they have a half-assed idea and they try to get government support for it. In this case under the banner of "patriotism?"
I would wholeheartedly support tax support for the PHUV. If it's worth supporting! the first prototype is a disgrace. Let's see how the 2nd prototype does. I'll withhold judgment until then. But I must say, the fugly first prototype left a very bad taste.
