December 22nd, 2006 07:02 PM #112Thanks for the kind words. While I do have the experience (mainly due to my old age) and network to try to get backing for such an undertaking, I am technologically-challenged when it comes to automotive. Beyond driving and the occasional flat-tire change, I am basically clueless when it comes to cars. That is the primary reason why I joined tsikot.com in the first place - to avoid being scammed by unscrupulous parties who may take advantage of my ignorance.
Someone with enough technical know-how has to take the lead in forming the group. (Perhaps one of the moderators can start a sign-up list?) We can start by listing down all the required aspects of the design process (aesthetics, engine, electricals, underchassis, chassis, aerodynamics, interiors, glass, doors, etc.) and see if we have all the requisite skills covered. Hopefully we can cover everything without becoming overly redundant.
Once we have the core group, perhaps we can meet and discuss the approach, direction, and objectives.

December 23rd, 2006 08:13 AM #114For the project vehicle to succeed it has to have certain features -
1. It must address a specific need of the target market at an affordable price. Personally I think this would mean either an inexpensive kei-type car or an AUV.
2. It should offer more benefits (at the same price level) than the competition. This can mean a lower price, more efficiency in terms of gas consumption or as a cargo or people-mover, lower maintenance costs, cheaper parts, wide availability, among others.
3. It should be reliable and offers a sense of dependability. This could mean using well-known off-the-shelf-components (at least initially) that are affordable, dependable, and widely available.
4. It should be easy and inexpensive to service and repair.
5. Not really a requirement but if the design can be made modular so that certain parts are "plug and play" then both functional and aesthetic transformations can be achieved quickly by the end-user. The modularity will enable third-party component manufacturers to produce options. It can also effectively lower cost to entry by stripping the vehicle to bare essentials but with an upgrade path to make it more confortable or even luxurious.
5. The production, distribution, after-market sales and service networks should involve as many parties as possible, thus generating a built-in market. Initially, there might be just one assembly "plant.' It procures the components from certified third party manufacturers, assembles the vehicle, conducts q.a., then delivers it to appointed dealers across the country. Third party service centers can also be certified to provide a structured network.
The assembly plant, third party manufacturers, service centers, and dealers can all be linked via an Internet-based network that provides comprehensive maintenance records for each vehicle. This will encourage users to deal with certified entities only, as transactions with unauthorized parties won't be recorded. The system can also help minimize carnapping since such incidents can be reported immediately with the information being disseminated at once to everyone.

Hi architect and fellow tsikoteers!
I am an architect myself and have gone through the process of researching, conceptualizing, designing, and prototyping an original Filipino ride since a long discussion two years ago in tsikot forums (See dprox at http://tsikot.yehey.com/forums/showt...t=14976&page=3)
If any of you are interested in owning or fabricating one (even a totally original customized-4-u alone), just visit http://www.disenyopilipino.ph.
I stand pat on the conviction that :lolabove: DESIGN is the MISSING LINK for a truly Filipino car industry. If you have a passion for Filipino automotive design, you are most welcome to join the guild. Let's get together sometime, OK? :2thumbsup:
Peace lang.

February 13th, 2007 01:34 AM #118Ive read the newspaper articles about the PhUV and its basically a brand new vehicle to be used for business and personal use. AUV like design configuration. Price target is P350 k. To capture the vacuum left behind by the now illegal SUBIC smuggled 2nd hand vehicles or SUVics.
It's not entirely (as in 100%) filipino manufactured as engine and transmission is still imported (but brand new so we cannot compare it with the Legacy which sports a second hand engine). But the local content is high, about 60% or more (so it cannot be compared with Suzuki Bravo and the Fords because local content of those vehicles do not exceed 50%).
As I have read, the critical success factor of the project is government support through financing. An affordable and easy on the pocket financing scheme is the only way consumers will pick the PhUV over a second hand Toyota, Mitsubishi or Isuzu AUV.
I think this is a good start for the Philippine auto industry to be revitalized. We do have to start somewhere and this may be the answer. it has been tried in the past as i have read in other forums. The ford fieras, isuzu kc 20, Cimaron and tamaraws where meant to be all locally developed and evolved. But crisis hit the Philippines so it was stopped.
i enjoyed reading the arguments in this forum as they seem intelligent and and unpretencious.
I will support the PhUV project by promoting it to my friends and even just sparking discussions about it with friends. I think the Philippines is again gaining good footing. Now's the time to make a difference. So lets do it.
here is another forum discussing the same thing for your perusal:

for a specific purpose the item has good potential, so I'll buy. Like what some posters said, it has to start from somewhere. it's good that many local manufacturers are sprouting up from here and there. Competition will drive the price down and increase the quality. Is there a Norkis club existing somewhere in the net or anyone among these coach builders? Is there an updated model of Legacy yet, and the price? Sowee, not familiar with sariling atin But I'm trying. TIA
oops a bit OT here but will show you anyhow...
I too share the dream of having something our race can call our own even if it's an improvement over a foreign made brand. something I've done in the past for an ancient thread. the car is sir Ian_Rex's and I've asked his permission before to play with it but wsn't able to post it during that time.
