making an evo II out of an old Lancer EL will take a lot of work and money.

First, you will need to seam weld the chassis for stiffness.

Second, you will need to rework the trunk to give clearance for the rear axel.

Third, you will need the entire front & rear suspension as well as the brakes.

And I am not that sure if you'll need the front/rear subframe as well.

It would be simpler to drop in the engine and make it FWD.

It might come out costing more than buying a 2nd hand evoIII. Since even if you install all the mechanical bits, there are still those small details that makes the difference between the real thing and something which was just assembled from used parts.

Am not sure about the II or III, but the package for converting a local Lancer to an EVO V or EVO VI includes the following:

    Wheels
    Hubs and brakes
    Full suspension
    Steering system
Engine, intercooler, wiring harness (exhaust is usually just locally custom-built)
    Hood, trunk, front quarter panels
    Interior
Rear subframe for the rear differential

    -

What they do is replace all the body panels that need replacing (which you may not have to do with the EVO III conversion... just add the bodykit), swap the engine and suspension, wire it in, and finally, and most critically, cut out the rear mount for the multi-link suspension and weld in the rear differential.

This last part is most critical, and it's important that it's done right, as, if the welding is done badly, it's possible for the rear differential to come apart in hard driving.

Such conversions can cost between 400-700k pesos. And, as Ghosthunter has mentioned, there are small details that still separate such a car from a real EVO. The welded-in rear diff mounting won't be anywhere near as strong as original unless you reinforce it with an additional backing plate... your chassis will not be as stiff as a real EVO, which affects handling, unless you have the whole thing aligned and seam or stitch welded (an additional 20-50k... Velocity Motors Shaw does it)... and I don't know if available kits include the steering system, which is also different on the EVO.

For all that trouble, you might as well just buy a real one. Or, if all you want is the power, just buy the engine and swap it in with a FWD transmission.

Of course, a FWD Lancer can't put all that power to the ground... a FWD EVO swap is quite funny to watch drag race... it's about half-a-minute of screeching and tire smoke before the car can hook up on street tires...

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
