Actually in most cases, Limited/Special editions come out during the last cycle of the model before an all-new model comes out.

In most cases, for roughly the same price you get more bells and whistles such as wood/carbon trim panelling, body kits, special lights, wheels or sound system.

The special edition Crosswinds and Hondas are laughable. C'mon, so much MONEY just for paint and bodykits?

Nissan's special "Touring Edition", "GTS", "Touring Sport" and lately, "i-Style" are almost completely cosmetic upgrades, but at least they don't break the bank.

As for the Centennial, the plan was to sell the RS all along (they sold them all over the ASEAN). The "Limited Edition CE" RS was Ford's nod at its 100-year anniversary. But yes, you are just paying extra for the special paint. The Lynx RS itself is technically a limited edition (very low volume model... it didn't sell by the boatloads but we still had to wait 2 weeks for ours), but the bodykit, mags, tires and engine are worth it. What makes the Philippine RS even more limited is that it's the only Lynx/Laser/Tierra badged 2.0 that came with a manual transmission. That bit saved at least 40k over the price of the overseas version and made the car that much more desirable.

Grabe, konti lang talaga ang mga performance oriented limited editions sa pinas'. The last one before the RS was the SiR, but that wasn't limited at all.

theres a limited edition or LE badge on it :D realistically, there is no difference between an ordinary unlimited car or a limited edition car.

Well, it's a shame... the LE 1.8 MX has decent power, great bodykit, and a terrific looking LCD-equipped dashboard stereo. (dunno if it's DVD, but it may be).

Still not as good a deal as a the Lynx RS or the Mazda 2.0 R... oh well...

Speaking AE101 Corolla, there are quite a number of editions/iterations of it.

1994 - Limited Edition: gold emblems, "Limited" emblem on the side doors, wood paneling, rear seatbelts, cupholders

1995 - new grille, red/white taillights and garnish, tiger-stripe seats and side mouldings, driver's airbag added late in the year

1996 - TRD Sport Edition: strut bar, cone filter, white-face gauges, special shift knob, TRD stickers on the fenders

1997 - TOM'S Version: spoiler, side skirts, 15" star wheels, ABS (introduced after TRD Edition), different exhaust piping AFAIK

All these different versions are essentially the same Corolla. Most of the features can simply be bought. I think these are just gimmicks, especially when the EK Civic came out. If they ought to bring out a real Special Edition, that should have simply been the 20-valve engine.

Lumang gimik nga yan... in the past, because of very restrictive taxing on higher displacement engines, limited editions were mostly high-kit regular models.

Astig nga yung touchscreen ng MX... too bad manumatic (INVECS) pa rin siya instead of manual.

The TRD Version ni Woulfe iba yung rear suspension setup compared to my AE101 dati, the mounting holes of the stock airbox iba din...
