March 8th, 2011 11:12 PM #31Actually, I meant it in general in the auto industry. The two new transmission tech for better fuel economy are CVT and dual clutch. Nissan happens to focus on CVT more so it's more common in the market while dual clutches are used by Mitsubishi in their Lancers and high end European brands. Right now, CVTs and dual clutches are more prone to errors and break down easily compared to conventional transmissions which is why big automakers can't make it mainstream. Hyundai is also heading to this direction so the technology will mature in these coming years.
Fiesta isn't the guinea pig but with the complexities of dual clutch, mass producing it will have higher statistics of errors and I'm sure this will help Ford improve their tech in the coming years.
