hello gents, some newbie questions:
what do i look out for when buying a used ford expy, specifically the 96-01 models?
madali lng ba maramdaman mga sira nito sa initial test drive, or do i have to poke around the engine bay pa muna?
and what do you recommend i have checked/replaced sa PMS immediately after buying a, say, 99 or 00?
thanks.

first thing you should check is the air suspension at the rear, thats the most expensive part if something goes wrong, then the front suspension as this will cost you 25k up to fix.the engine is practically bulletproof but if neglected on maintennce this would give you headaches as well. to check the air suspension, you must listen to the compressor when its running upon engine start up, it should stop after a while when the vehicle is raised to its proper ride height. if the compressor continues to pump while you're driving, it indicates a leak in the air bags of the rear suspension. the compressor intermittently will operate from time to time and this is normal. basically the other things to check are in common with what you would check on other used vehicles.

thanks...
just this morning i saw a black expy with svt type rims, rear right drooping very low. i suppose it had a busted air suspension on that side.
25k to fix the front doesn't seem so expensive. some honda crvs taken into dealerships for suspension rehab and some other repairs are charged quite a bit more than that, hehe.
gusto ko kasi sa expy yung feeling na totally disconnected sa road. i'm getting old, and have driven many miles... the whole sharp handling and firm, sporty suspension feel of most jap cars no longer for me. kung meron nga lang na nabibili na parang yung kotse sa animatrix, pag iipunan ko pa yun eh hehe

actually yng 25k for the front suspension is the minimum, it could go higher depending on the parts needed for replacement, can reach 60k or so. if your looking for a car thats disconnected from the road then the expy fits you to a tee. the steering feels absolutely lifeless and the handling a nightmare hehehe, but the bonus you get is a perfectly smooth ride (feels like floating on air, only for gen1 models), smooth and torquey engine, my expy can accelerate from standstill into cruising speed at only 1.2k rpm. driving it doesn't tire you out unlike other cars, like a lazyboy on wheels. only downsides are its girth and drinking problem hehehe

To Expedition owners out there,
My 03 Expedition won't start. The battery is ok, and it tries to start, but it just won't start.
The computer display says "Low Oil Pressure" and "Service Engine Soon"
Which is funny because I just had a change oil at the casa about 2 weeks ago. I checked the dip stick, and the oil level looks ok to me.
Any of you encounter this?
I plan to have Ford Fort Bonifacio tow it and check it out after the holidays. Any comments about Ford Fort branch?

January 3rd, 2009 09:34 AM #989I dont know if this will answer your question. My 02 Expy was doing ok when suddenly may umilaw na "service engine soon". At first di ko muna pinansin kasi ok naman takbo ng car. Bago din ang batteries ko. The following day ayaw na nya magstart. Nagiiistart sya pero palyado. Pero enough to bring my car to Ford Edsa khit palyado and namamatay makina. It turned out "sensor" daw ang problema. So pinalitan nila then ok na uli. I think its a sensor for the fuel injection. Di ko lang alam exact name. I hope heto lang problem mo.

January 3rd, 2009 09:50 AM #990I think that goes for me too. Also the main reason why I have stuck with the original rims of my 02 expy. But if you are not yet contented, try those european cars. Just bought a '90 w124 260e benz for 300t, mas malambot ang ride nya. Lakas pa ng makina kasi 6 cylinder. Pero kung pangpamilya expy talaga. hehehe
someones are (at last!) loudly asking, "why did they turn off the countdown timers?"
