June 10th, 2009 01:36 PM #1027The second generation Expeditions do not have the air suspension, as far as I know.
Its available as an option in foreign markets. In the Philippines, I am not sure if it was offered.
Again I am not 100% sure.
Anyway, there is a shop which converts the air suspension system to coils. I had a 99 xlt expedition 4x4 a few years back.
I had it converted to ford oem coil springs at the back (replacing the air springs) and adjustable rancho shocks up front (to replace the air shocks).
Cost was 35,000php at autoteknika fairview.
Resulting ride was a bit stiffer, but not uncomfortable. But the suspension was more reliable. No more leaks, compressor problems, relay failure, etc., which was common in the air suspension.

nope, all 2nd gen expeditions have coil springs for their rear suspension. coil springs are practically indestructible, you only replace the shocks if they're worn out. this is also the reason why many gen2 expy owners/drivers complain that the ride is harsher "tagtag" than the gen1. well for me, i still prefer the air springs over the coils. reasons also why i didn't get a gen2 when i sold my gen1

to answer your queries:
1.at 100k ang dami ng papalitan dyan, timing belt, ball joints, suspension bushings, air suspension parts, the list goes on...... magtabi ka ng around 100k for repairs just to be sure, it may even cost more than a 100k so be prepared, expedition parts are expensive pero they last long naman.
2.timing belts are changed every 60-80k depending on use and abuse, since the gen1 expy has a timing chain (replacement 100k-150k mileage) medyo safe ka pa pero palitan mo narin for peace of mind. again timing chain is pretty expensive and most mechanics pag nakitang expe tatagain ka sa labor. alot at least 30k more or less.
3. pag air compressor lang ang pinalitan watch out, hindi basta basta nasisira ang air compressor unless may leak sa rear air bag suspensions, nagkakaron kasi ng moisture pag nag leak so nadadamay ang compressor, ang tendency natin palitan lang ang compressor since yun lang ang sira...but kung may leak sa airbags halos every few months magpapalit ka ng compressor. air compressors costs around 20k, airbag suspension naman around 10k each x2,so most probably 30k excluding labor na aabot din ng 5k. the costs i gave were not from casa, sa mga parts supplier lang yan sa banawe. ang airbag suspension palang sa casa costs 21k each na. alam na alam ko ito kasi i replaced my airbags nung nagkaron ng crack. DIY lang para tipid sa labor hehehe
4. 4h is four wheel drive high ratio, same as 2 wheel drive yun nga lang all 4 wheels are powered. 4L is 4 wheel drive low ratio (gapang na ang takbo mo dito,up to only 20-30kph if im not mistaken, very usefull pag steep and slippery inclines where you need more traction and torque) ang A is auto setting, ala crv realtime na nag 4 wheel lang if needed. usually pag normal city driving nasa 2h lang ang switch. pero i dont recall 4x4 expy's na merong A setting.well i could be wrong though

someones are (at last!) loudly asking, "why did they turn off the countdown timers?"
