I'm pretty sure I know him by face, but I don't recall his outlet. One of the papers, I believe.
23, if that includes some trips through town, is pretty fantastic for the 1.6. Must have been doing some pulse-and-glide at low speeds for that...

Basta the best way to get the best mileage is not to lose momentum. Impossible to do in Metro Manila. So in other wors you gotta get out of Metro Manila to achieve those figures...

Sounds ironic, doesn’t it? How can you scrimp on something so festive as a fiesta? How can this chic compact hatch from Ford named after celebrations of abundance and indulgence involve itself in such a down-to-earth concept as fuel economy?
Ford Motor Company Philippines’ best-selling model the Fiesta, just about to turn a year old this Oct. 15, sends a clear message to the motoring public: Frugal can be fun.
Participants to the Fiesta fuel economy challenge held Sept. 17 and 18 certainly got the message loud and clear.
Six teams, each composed of a driver and navigator, from the motoring media and Fiesta owners selected online, took on the challenge hurled by Ford Motor Company Philippines: Beat the recent Ford Fiesta fuel consumption record of 19 km/liter (achieved on a Fiesta 1.6L A/T Trend sedan, which ran 747 km on a single tank of fuel).....

September 21st, 2011 10:23 PM #26Six teams of fuel-economy drivers recently beat the 19km-per-liter record set by the Ford Fiesta in a 16-hour trip to Ilocos Norte.
The best mileage recorded by the 1.6-liter Ford Fiesta hatchback was posted by the team composed of Tessa Salazar (Philippine Daily Inquirer) and Dino Directo (Manila Standard), which registered 23.663 kilometers per liter. It was followed Team Top Gear--staff writer Sharleen Banzon and this writer--with 19.545km per liter.
"We beat the DOE (Department of Energy) record. We didn't know we could go beyond 19 kilometers" said Anika Salceda, Ford Group Philippines' assistant vice president for communications. When Ford conducted a similar run with the DOE, the 1.6-liter Ford Fiesta hatchback achieved an 18.84km-per-liter mileage while the sedan ran 19 kilometers per liter.
The lone sedan in the group, driven by Fiesta owners Omar Gabrieles and Sherwin Go, covered 18.297 kilometers per liter.
A group of six cars participated in the fuel-economy run that started at 5am in Balintawak, crossed various provinces up north via highways as well as tight small-town and city roads. The Fiestas were battered by heavy rains in Subic in the morning and in the Ilocos region in the afternoon and evening, and had to occasionally wade through flooded areas.
When asked about how his team maximized the fuel on the Fiesta hatchback, Directo said keeping the momentum is key.
"Momentum is important. We maintained a speed of 70kph to 80kph at 1,800rpm to 2,000rpm," he added.
While Team Top Gear tried to run at around the same speed, Shiela Flor Javier from the UP National Center for Transportation Studies said we were accelerating faster, which gave the winning team is advantage. Javier is one of the auditors who checked the results of the fuel-economy run.
A lot of people may say the numbers are unrealistic because of the controlled environment. But the thing is, if you want to save fuel, you really have to take control of certain factors. In this run, the fuel tanks were filled with the same type of gasoline, the route and pit stops were set, the fuel lid and engine compartment were sealed, and the fan was set at #1.
In real-life driving, factors that you may want to control include your acceleration level, speed and rpm get the optimum mileage for your car. You even have to keep your emotions in check as road rage or even the slightest degree of impatience will make you want to just floor it--and you can say goodbye to fuel economy.

Ford's frugal Fiesta does one better with a 23.7 km/L run
A month ago, Ford Group Philippines (FGP) went out on a mission to push the all-new Fiesta to its fuel feeding limits. Under the watchful eye of the Department of Energy (DOE), a fleet of Ford Fiestas set out on a 700 km fuel economy run to finally set the record straight and surprised by logging in an impressive 19 km/L run. But in the never ending quest for fuel economy, a special group of Fiesta fanatics was summoned to take up the challenge and do one better.
At the crack of dawn, six 1.6L automatic Ford Fiesta's rolled out from Ford Balintawak to make the long journey to Ilocos Norte all vying for the most fuel-efficient drive. Driven by five media teams representing different automotive magazines, newspapers, TV programs, and websites with a select bunch from the Ford Club Philippines (FCP), all six Fiesta's adhered to strict factory specifications and were checked by duly designated and authorized Ford Service personnel. And just like in the first DOE run, security seal stickers were placed on the fuel lid, engine compartment, and aircon switches, which was set at level “1” for the entire duration of the drive.....
