Biggest yes... Profitable? Not anymore you amateur! Guess who is the most profitable right now? You are looking at it on this thread amateur... Your ignorance of the stock markets is showing hahaha... You didn't even know Ford Motor Co. is the now world's most profitable car maker... Pero kung yung utak mo nasa 2008 pa rin tama ka Toyota nga!
Ford Motor Co., the world’s most profitable automaker, is generating enough cash to pay off billions in debt after reporting third-quarter net income of $1.69 billion, the most in its 107-year history.
By the end of the week, Ford will have paid down $10.8 billion in obligations this year and reduced its auto unit’s debt to $22.8 billion, the company said today. New models like the Fiesta subcompact car are fetching high prices, helping to boost the automotive cash to $23.8 billion on September 30. By year’s end, Ford said its cash will about equal its liabilities.

To be fair, that's not probably his idea, but it does show how versatile the C platform is. hehe.
ganda ng ford cars lately. kung hindi lang lalabas yung gen3 focus soon malamang focus ang kinuha namin. and kung yung fiesta e available na since early last year malamang fiesta. hehe. good experience with our ranger eh. even my dad still wants a focus or an eve

Maybe not this specific idea, but the general idea of creating different cars with single platforms to reduce cost and increase flexibility is an Alan Mulally era idea already and was not being implemented during Bill Ford's time when each business unit are responsible for just themselves and there was no global integration... It was during this administration,if you will, that they start taking cars from Ford Europe who specialize in small cars and make them global... The Focus electric is just a part of that central idea...

Ford did alot of divestments to go back to a semblance of profitability. As of now, Lincoln nalang ang buhay sa mga marques nila, and mababa na rin ang stocks nila sa mazda. land rover, jaguar, volvo... sold na lahat. hehe. Nag close rin sila ng factories at nag lay off ng mga tao to survive.
common-platform engineering is hardly a Ford innovation. Chrysler's been doin it since the 60's with their muscle cars... Ford's been at it since the 80s.
but yes, ngayon nalang nagkakaroon ng global car models ang Ford... which is of course, excellent, since most of 'em are designed by Ford Europe!
and leading the way is the Fiesta, of course

In the kind of scale they are doing right now? In that one C platform they are making 12 different cars with different type of engines meron pa ngang mini van and a crossover vehicle on it...
So they really save a lot of money cause they can offer a full line up of vehicles. with very few cost...
And it was only during this administration that they could make SMALL CARS in the US PROFITABLY! I remember former GM CEO Rick Wagoner saying that there is no chance that small cars can be made in the US PROFITABLY...
But Alan said this "Everybody says you can't make money off small cars. Well, you'd better damn well figure out how to make money because that's where the world is going."Last edited by tidus1203; January 15th, 2011 at 08:11 AM.

The C1 platform is versatile: it's found on the focus, kuga, the mazda 3 and a couple of volvo cars and their derivatives. Most of em, however, are from ford europe. It's that good.
The focus in the US doesn't use the same platform though. (and it pales compared to ours)
The detroit three really focused on full sized SUVs at some point in time, right before the fuel prices skyrocketed. Market demand eh, and Ford North America was stuck in the big-is-good paradigm for years. But not Ford Europe and Australia.
Small cars really weren't that hot in the US before - people wanted big cars... kasi malalaki ang mga kano (no kidding. tested this when relatives from the US came by nung summer. 3 passengers + 1 driver lang sa kanila ang mazda2! and ang mga auto nila Tundra, Taurus... ang lalaki lahat!) Ngayon ngayon nalang talaga pumatok ang mga compacts at subcompacts sa US with all the need for efficiency and affordability. The detroit three really made sucky subcompacts and compacts until recently.
To his credit, Mulally made several right decisions. Efficiency is king now, and Ford is clearly walking towards that direction with hybrid technology (the Fusion hybrid has consistently been touted as better than the Camry), plug in EVs (Focus, panapat sa Volt), and better engines (petrol ecoboost engines with high compression ratios, common rail direct injection, and early peak torque with a PLATEAU! parang N-engines ng BMW)

The Americans may finally be buying small cars like the Fiesta (took them long enough)' but it's made in Mexico, not in the USA.
