for me, ang layo naman nito sa Vios/City. i've driven this before and it is such a great car! very fast and torquey! malayong malayo even for the 09 City.

Focus is a sport hatch, not an econobox like the city and vios. It's like saying Mazda3 is also a competitor to vios and city since Mazda3 is based on the old Focus.

I guess the "Escort" name along with the car itself was getting old-fashioned.
When the all-new 1st gen Focus (MK1) was launched in 1998 it was a huge step ahead of the Escort.
It had Ford's then very modern looking "New Edge" design and an all-new platform which had a multi-link (control blade) rear suspension.
