A Diner's Club Card would be more of a status symbol especially in that restaurant with no visible cash registers. We didn't have a Diner's Club Card. But a Platinum Visa was good enough. I hope Starbucks doesn't progress to that status! It's also valet parking only. We felt good pulling in with our then dented, unwashed and beat-up 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan.
I'm sure in due time, SB will lose its status as a "sosy" place when the next big thing comes along. I'm surprised it's not a hangout for singles and young adults, though. That's what SB is more like here. It's mostly a hangout for college students.

Maybe the new youth generation really acts this way nowadays
goin to Starbucks or other establishments, bringing their high tech gadjets whether students or yuppies without the intention of projecting their social status
They just like the ambience or really like Starbucks taste

Here in the P.I., where many people eat only once a day, where the staple food of the masses is instant noodles, having extra money for starbucks coffee is already a status symbol.
