actually, what i was alluding to, is that many imported processed foods use non-iodine-fortified salt. iodine is not mentioned in the product fine print.
even our favorite frito-lays. whatever iodine it has, comes from the un-edited iodine content of its ingredients.
manufacturers say "iodine-fortified or something", when they want to emphasize its iodine content.

the philippines has mandated the use of iodized salt in foods processing and manufacture. so if the product is manufactured in the country and has salt, expect the salt to be iodized.

I like roasted chestnuts and edamame.

Hindi ata season ng chestnuts wala sa supermarket.

i think the stall outside Shopper's Mart Ongpin is open year round...although afaik mas masarap siya when in season, usually around Christmas until Chinese New Year.

i passed by Ongpin last week, parang meron na rin sa labas ng Bee Tin grocery(not Eng Bee Tin).

Nung bata pa ako, there was an urban legend going around that martial artists would stir the hot gravel with their arms to strengthen them. Thankfully none of us were stupid enough to try it

It's been awhile since i've had a bag of pistachios. The ones from Growers and Tobi's just don't taste the same.

all year round ang canned nuts sa grocery.
i sprinkle 'em onto my ice cream.

and yes... students of martial arts would be seen along echague during the 'ber months, mixing the castanas and the pebbles with their hands, heated by an open flame underneath. pampatigas daw ng daliri.
and the towels over their heads and backs, provide the non-iodized salt...
    heh heh. yechhh!
