A friend of mine tipped me that there will be a free workshop seminar (Feb 22 - 23) sponsored by US DOE, Phil. DOE and Meralco Foundation regarding conversion of gaso engines to run on Natural gas. An american engineer will show(in actual) how to do the conversions. Plano yata ng Phil. gov't to set-up natural gas refuelling stations by 2007. Looks promising, dahil mayaman ang Philippines sa natural gas.

mayaman ang philippines sa natural gas? really?
malampaya field only has proven reserves of 5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. you know how long that will last? if the gas is used ONLY for the 1500MW batangas plant and the planned conversion of the 600MW bnpp, 20 years. pero pag inatake pa ng kabwayahan ang gobyerno they will try to put up more natural gas-fed power plants na hindi naman sustainable, baka di pa umabot ng 15 years yan. yun nga oil reserve sa malampaya estimated at 100 million barrels is not even enough to meet the oil requirements of the philippines for 1 year! kaya nga umatras yung planned petrochem plant sa bataan kasi after malampaya wala na sumunod na natural gas or oil discoveries eh. if the raw material supply is only good for 2 decades or less e di sayang naman ang cost ng petrochem plant.
pag meron na tayo proven natural gas reserves na katulad ng brunei, thailand or malaysia, yan pwede na yan. pero for now, ewan. imho, the government just wants to sell all that gas as fast as they can so they can collect the taxes and spend it while they are in power.Last edited by yebo; February 22nd, 2005 at 09:11 PM.

So would the convertion be applicable to an ordinary 4-cylinder car like a Honda Civic?

This is a viable alternative. And it's not just a concept, it's actually being used in developed countries most notably Australia.
