April 30th, 2004 07:22 PM #1Guys, nalilito na ako. Pag sinabi bang tune up, ibig sabihin ay oil change, oil filter change at spark plug change?
Or all of the above, plus valve adjstment, timing adjustment, carb re-jetting, ecu reset?
Di ko na kce ma differentiate kung ang ibig sabihin nila sa tune-up ay regular maintenance or something beyond that na kakalikutin sa makina para mag-iba/ma-fine tune ang andar ng kotse mo... tnx in advance.

As far as I know, change oil, & spark plugs lang, tapos clean air filter.

signs your car needs a tune-up:
has this happened to you? your car stalls in traffic when the air conditioner is turned on? or di kaya it keeps running after the ignition is turned off? these are classic signs your engine is overdo for attention.
Minor tune-up:
- clean/replace Spark Plugs
- clean/replace Air Filter
- replace fuel filter
- battery and charging system analysis
- adjust idle speed and timing where applicable
- adjust/replace fan belts
- inspect tires and adjust tire pressure
Major tune-up:
- replace spark plugs
- replace air filter
- replace fuel filter
- battery and charging system analysis
- adjust idle speed and timing where applicable
- replace fan belts
- inspect tires, tire rotation and adjust tire pressure
- inspect brake pads
- inspect/replenish car's fluids (motor oil, transmission oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid & coolant)
- valve adjustments (tappeting yata tawag nila dun?)

valve adjustments (tappets) is usually a major job na which will take longer than the usual hour for the normal tune-up

May 2nd, 2004 11:09 PM #6Guys,
yung isang Car namin naka 6A12 DOHC engine or galant...
Inaadjust din ba ang timing nito at tappets? Sabi kasi ng mechanic SELF-ADJUSTING daw.
Is this true?

May 3rd, 2004 01:44 PM #7m not sure... basically when i was still driving a diesel pickup, kasali sa "tune-up" yung pag adjust ng tappets, rocker arms at kung ano ano pa na nasa likod ng valve cover. anyway, napansin ko lang yung nag-sedan na ako (DOHC 16valve), na puro oil, oil filter and sparks nalang ang pinakikialaman during maintenace. siguro since our pickup doesnt have over - head cams that's why kailangan i-adjust yung mga items mentioned, whereas sedans nowadays have over head cams, so wala na silang mga rocker arms and stuff... m not sure though.

yes, wannabe, your gallant's engine is equipped with hydraulic valve-lifters so there is no need to adjust it.

May 5th, 2004 03:28 AM #9there are different types of valvetrain components. some require manual adjustments (honda) while others cannot be adjusted without replacing parts (i.e. newer model corona's, etc)
