hi guys. a friend of mine owns a mazda 323 familia 98 model. medyo na nagkakaproblema na siya dahil bukod sa laklak ng gas e kapag nagpepreno e namamatayan pa ng makina. ano kaya ang problema nun?

    thanks!

ahh... the ever present idling problem of the mazda familia...

i've used to experience the same problems but was later cured by a fuel pressure regulator. caloyski also suffered the same problem was it magically disappeared one day.

even the service mechanics are at a loss on how to cure this permanently. they can fix this but after a few days it'll come back.

you can try these quick fixes:
    - computer reset
    - clean the throttle body
    - change your spark plugs to cold ones
    - tune up

may have something to do rin sa electrical kse pag nag-brake ka, you consume additional electrical load then sabayan mo pa ng pag-on ng aircon/auxiliary fan. i remember before yun friend ko nagpalagay ng relay sa aux fan para ma-minimise yun fluctuation sa power pag nag-on yun aircon.

when you press the brake kasi, the computer will lean out the fuel mixture. kung medyo out of tune na makina mo, that might be sufficient para mamatay yung makina.

try nya muna tuneup. if that doesn't work, adjust niya idle (lalong lalakas yung laklak ng gas though...)

try mo dalhin sa signet sa commonwealth. dun ko pinagawa yung similar prob ko dati e (although balintawak autocenter pa sya nun) at naayos naman. di na bumalik yung problema kahit once o twice a yr lang ako pa change oil/tune up.

ok. i'll have it relayed to my friend. let all modesty aside, barubal kasi gumamit yun e.hehehe. kaya ayun binibigyan sya tuloy ng problema ng auto nya. ika nga "Take of your car, your car will take care of you". by comparison, let me quote sir mazdamazda, mas bata pa ang ride mo kesa dun (kilala mo ito). meron pa ngang nagiging problema yun e, sa electricals naman. yung ribbon cable underneath sa steering column. wala syang busina at the same time yung airbag non-functional na rin. sayang talaga yun. "crush" ko pa naman yung 323 nya.

I have the same problem and tried the other fixes, but it didn't work. Sabi ng mechanic me problem pa din sa idle, suku siya.

Work around namin ng mechanic (very nice person) ni speedyfix is to make the idle more aggressive (1k).

quick fix? change your plugs to bkr6e... yung ang cold plugs ng ngk... kasi ang stock is bkr5e...

computer reset? um, tanggalin mo lang ang battery terminals then press the horn then ibalik mo ulit... ayun na yun...

wierd a. is that prob common with gen2 only? or pati yung gen2.5? akin kasi gen2.5 e. once naayos sya, di na sya bumalik. di ko talaga alam kung anong ginawang ayos dun. oh well, nakatsamba cguro ako. hopefully maayos din sa lahat. good luck!

holy crap.. 1000 petot = 42.5L sa old price ng shell velocity (23.5/L) -- pera tumaas na daw by 0.60. assuming yung 280+ km mo is 290 km, 290 km / 42.5L = 6.8 km/L yikes. maybe it's worth trying to fix the problem.

some other things i can think of: in addition to yung sinabi ni caloyski na clean the TB, try also cleaning the IAC valve, and the MAF.

What is "cleaning the IAC valve, and the MAF"?

Wow I'm impressed with the computation for the milage. My fuel consumption is around 41/42+ liters!

Sad thing is I just changed sparkplugs (Bosch Ytrium) before I read this thread.

    tiny,
sabi mo 1000 petot eh. 1000 petot / 23.5 petot per liter = 42.5 liters.

the IAC valve is the Idle Air Control valve. it's supposed to control the idle when the A/C, etc. goes on. when it gets dirty, this causes erratic idle.

the MAF is the Mass Airflow Sensor. it measures the amount of air na hinihigop ng engine. when this gets dirty, it causes weird acceleration problems. all of these cleaning, kaya gawin ng suking mazda mechanic (sa mga Ford casa...) or sa Kontact-Point sa Banawe.

    isa pa pala mister tiny,

BOSCH IS NOT GOOD FOR MAZDA ENGINES

maraming thread about that sa probetalk forums (the ford probe GT is basically a mazda 626). for some reason, mazda's hate bosch plugs, the temperature is too different.

you should use, and only use, NGK or Nippondenso plugs. these are the OEM plugs for mazda.

sayang.. mahal pa naman yata yang bosch plugs mo! :P

I'll ask the mechanic to take a look at those things (Mass Airflow Sensor and Idle Air Control electrical parts kaya to?)

Ytrium cost me about 85php per plug. Hindi naman sobrang expensive like the Iridium tech other sparkplugs use.

    Regards,

MAF is electrical, it's on the air box. The IAC is a mechanical/electric component, it's near the throttle body, it's analogous to the "idle servo" on Mitsu cars.

If the TPS- throttle positioning sensor- was reset then could also cause erratic idle. Have the mechanic check the setting or compare with another 323 engine's setting.

    More troubles for me. :dead:

Amoy sunog (burnt rubber) ang whatever and if the clutch is stepped on instant drop yung rpm to about 400 sabay nginig!

Waaahhhh... Taking it to a shop. Holy week pa naman.

tiny sounds like a clutch master problem. why not bring it to the shop if you're in the area
