Not really better because its air flow restrictive.
The engine bay area can get hot and hotter air is less dense.
What you can do is put a wall after the filter boxing the filter inside and utilizing the air duct at the corner to get cold air from the outside and not inside the engine bay.
Just remember clean, cold and less restricted air flow.

January 3rd, 2010 03:09 PM #17stock air intake is almost similar to cold air intake in some cars. the filter element just make air intake a bit more restrictive.
short ram just like yours will have insignificant effect because hot air from the engine bay will be ones getting inside your engine.
