I don't know whether this was covered before, didn't find it in the previous pages, but why does RP recommends a diesel engine to travel 8,000 to 10,000 miles ( approx 12-16 thou Kms.) before using it? (as stated in their website) Planning to use a synthetic oil during my 1K PMS, as this is the recommendation by the service dept of mitsu, and I am highly considering RP until I saw that recommendation in their website.
What would be a good synthetic alternative to RP in a new engine? I am not inclined in using a mineral based oil for now.
this is because diesel engines take a long time to break in. and using synthetic oil will cause it to take even longer. the best time to use synthetic oil is when the engine is fully broken in na.
So the 1000 kms na break in period po ng diesel engines is not enough or do I need to use a non synthetic to hasten the break in period? Sorry for the noob and OT question, but won't it be better that the break in period is longer so that the "new condition" of the engine is also prolonged? Are there disadvantages of a prolonged break in period of an engine? The only disadvantage I can think of is that you can't drive your vehicle hard because it is not yet fully broken in.
you want the breakin to be done as fast as possible so that the engine becomes efficient sooner. mineral oil with quick successions of oil changes is the best thing when a diesel engine is new.
