Service manual from a website says the following:

Head bolt torque sequence (12 points bolt)
    1st stage: 74 Nm
    2nd stage: Fully loosen
    3rd stage: 20 Nm
    4th stage: 90 deg turn
    5th stage: 90 deg turn

Question: Do i have to follow the 2nd stage, really?

Plus one piston pin is loose. a friend says it only needs pressing. at the back of my mind is to replace all pins

2nd stage is done to allow the gasket to relax and adjust to the new thickness after it has compressed. the third stage is about 14.75 ft. lbs is to seat the bolts. it is the 4th and 5th that finally sets the head bolts. with the piston pin, if the piston pin boss is worn out, you will have to replace the piston. if it is full floating piston pin, it is normal for it to slide side to side and rotate.

Mitsubishi 4G92 torque sequence?
