Actually we have also a Landcruiser its a 1999 model pero old school diesel pa... Pero mas matagal ng konti sa kanya compared to Santa Fe siguro sa kanya mga 5 seconds siguro... Is it because mas bago lang yung Santa Fe or is talaga because of technology na din?

same here, less than a second lang kahit walang pre-heat. for our Japan Pajero and a Townace. though I don't intend to practice it. And also on cold starts kahit nag-off na yung glow plug, uma-andar pa ulit yan after the start basta sensor type yung glow plug though in the dash hindi nag-indicate.

nothing happens to your engine. the pre-heat is used to help increase the temperature of air/fuel mixture in the chamber for easy combustion coz' diesel engines don't have spark plugs.
if the pre-heat stays too long the glow plug will be busted. diesel engines with very good compression will start even without pre-heating.

Wala naman. YOur heater still works for a couple of seconds after your engine has started. It's just to guarantee a quick start. Observe that during the rest of day you don't really need to wait for lamp to turn off or it just goes off after a second or two.
