Ung number sa oil na nakikita mo represents what temperature they will work on. There are oils that changes its behavior (and composition) to accommodate the weather conditions, like the ones you mentioned.

5W-30 means even at 5 degrees Celsius, during winter time, the oil will lubricate your engines. It will change composition to accommodate temperatures of upto 30 degrees celsius. There are oils, however, that cannot do this, SAE 40 for example works best for hot temperatures but will struggle to turn the engine over for cold starts.

As for oil filters, yes it is recommended to change it every time you change oil. It is responsible to suck up all the goop and black sh*t (thats the carbon deposits) you dont want your engines to chew on while driving. Think of it as changing diapers. Sure, if you dont change a baby's diaper after cleaning him wont hurt it, but it wont absorb as much next time around.

Oil flush is different from a change oil. Oil flush works just like dialysis. You take the old oil out, then a set of chemicals will be poured into the engine then we start the engine. We leave it on idle for a few minutes so the chemicals can get all the goop and deposits out (and yes, im talking carbon again), then we drain it, before we pour in the fresh oil. Change oil skips the chemicals part. Open lid at the bottom, drain oil, pop the lid back and pour new oil.

    Hope it helps

Kung consistent naman oil change 5,000 kms or 6months no need to flush.

If type mo talaga magflush, gamit ka diesel oil na match sa api rating kotse mo.

Wag ka gagamit nung mga binebenta flushing chemical ah.

Sir, why it is just so advising not to use branded flushing chemical? would a diesel is advisable than using those so called flushing chemicals/oils? TIA

Beware: Jiffy Lube's "Engine Flush" Could Damage Your Car

    Posted: Nov 14, 2008 11:08 a.m.

Television cameras in Los Angeles have caught Jiffy Lube and EZ Lube shops selling services that can cause thousands of dollars in damages to a car's engine.

California NBC-affiliate KNBC reports that "customers across the country" have seen "their engines broke down after having an engine flush" at a Jiffy Lube or EZ Lube store. Undercover cameras caught a Jiffy Lube technician telling a reporter that Honda required the service every 2 years or 30,000 miles on her Accord, when Honda has actually "issued a memo to mechanics advising them not to perform engine flushes. Other major car-makers, including Ford, General Motors, and Nissan have all issued similar advisories against the service."

An engine flush runs solvents through the vehicle's engine, ostensibly in order to break up sludge that builds up over time as an engine runs. "But car-makers say, pieces of that broken up sediment can clog up other parts of the engine and ruin it," according to the KNBC report. A "fuel injection flush" offered to the reporter could have cause the same problem. The problem isn't limited to California. One customer told the station that an engine flush performed by a Jiffy Lube in Kansas City caused $5,000 worth of damage to his Nissan Sentra.

Consumerist notes, "In a statement, both Jiffy Lube and EZ Lube say it wasn't acceptable for employees to lie and say services were recommended by the manufacturer when they weren't, and the employees caught would be fired." But apparently Jiffy Lube shops retain the ability to perform the dubious service, so be cautious. Your car's owner's manual has a comprehensive list of recommended services. When a mechanic tells you it's time for a particular service, don't take their word for it - check.

True. Engine flush uses chemicals. Although, once lang talaga sya in a very long time. In fact, moat vehicles these days wont need one. Kailangan lang sya pag di mo talaga alam service history ng sasakyan and you bought it second hand, or if you have very very ( and i mean waaaaaaaaay overdue) long overdue PMS. In fact most gasolines these days say they have additives that clean the engine. Nothing beats PMS pa dn. Pag madumi na oil, very difficult to start on cold days or even the faintest hint of misfire, check na agad for oil levels and check if replacement is needed.
