With sir jackaroo's timed post, I was thinking of using the All Terrain oil of Petron. I was using Mobil Delvac for quite a few years since. Since medyo malaki ang consumo ng TD42, I will have to switch to a much cheaper price of oil but not in terms of oil quality.
The rating and specification claims as stated at the back of their labels are one of te highest in the industry. :D
Jake, my ride is a Frontier 2.7... Its a precombustion design and not DI so it is much more quiet then the Isuzu engines from the start.
A common misconception with using syths is that you can prolong your drain periods... wrong, especially in our Philippine road conditions. The dirt and will still be there in the engine just like it was with a mineral oil, synthetics just dont thin out that fast... Several Nissanbayan peeps already tried prolonging their drain interval with synth oil (Mobil 1 and Valvoline) and after 10K, the oil didnt look too good when we drained, on the older cars, we had to open u pthe engines to remove the sludge... It's still better to stick to the regular 5K intervals given our extreme motoring conditions.
I agree with you sir that the dirt will still be there. But the guys at Carworld testified that they can extend the drain of synthetics to 10k and are even recommending it provided you replace the oil filter every 5k. I talked to several satisfied Mitsu customers who have done this with their Mitsu Turbo XP synthetic oil. But still every 5k change is still the best. I can assume that the filter change would filter more of the dirt that accumulated of which the old filter may not. :D
IMO, the misconception was a result of improper information. There are caveats to follow when using synth oil, such as, changing oil filters every 5k km with quality oil filters(not generic types), replacing air filters every 10k km again with quality filters, sound internals of engine before switching to synth. The suggested 10k km interval is on hway driving so if the car is used primarily in the city then your 5k km is effectively doubled by all the idling, crawling in city traffic.
Old cars that didn't start life with synth oil can pass more fuel thru the piston rings which will dilute the oil. Oil diluted by fuel or water will not offer the same protection whether it be mineral or synth.
Roydok, thanks for filling in on that part... i forgot about that.
There is a world of difference in the wear and tear on highway driven versus city driven cars. I once test drove an all-highway driven L200 in Cagayan de Oro with 150,000km on the odo. It felt much better and performed much better then my neighbor's city-driven L200 with less then 80,000km on the odo.
Thanks for the added info sir jackaroo. :D I agree again with sir vinj that highway driven cars' oil is cleaner than city (stop-and-go) driven cars. :D
Ungas,
In reference to your previous experience, would like to know if you were using Mobil Delvac 1 5w40 at 10k km changes? Were you replacing oil filters every 5K or 10k km? At what km reading did you start using Delvac 1? How often would you replace air filters?
Would like to see how much of an abuse the delvac 1 synth oil can take. Thanks.
Yes, I did use Mobil Delvac within 10k km change oil intervals on our Starex D4BB engine.
No, I didn't change any filters within the 10k km. Guess I forgot to buy an extra liter if I need to refill it just incase.
Since we got it brand new, after the 1000km PMS. I have used it eversince. So far so good, but the mechanic told me that the engine oil could still go further with 2k more kms.
10k was the interval of changing filters same with the oils. But people have told me that sometimes it is not safe to reach the Delvac upto 10k. So I have adjusted it to 8k for oil changes.
jeff::: I think so, pareho yata sila ng D4BB engine. Facing the engine hood it is located at the right side behind the engine's injection pump. Hyundai made it clearly visible by putting bright yellow plastic cover around the top handle. Medyo mababa yata ang tayo ng dip stick for H100 vans compared to Starex.
Ok naman po ang Shell Helix Diesel Super 15W-40. It's API rating is still CF. Pero if you want a better protection for your engine the Shell Rimula X is better with a higher API rating of CH-4. I guess it's probably due to the vibralite additive which maintains stable viscosity rating thruout the service life.
Help guys i'll be changing my oil this week i'm choosing between these 3 oils shell helix super, Rev-X trekker and delo 500. Which one should i use and what grade? its for a hyundai H100 btw.:D
