    regards dito!

daily i drive my 1.3 corolla 2001 to/from work for about 25 kms in a riyadh highway, usually hataw ako mga 140-160kph sa umaga para hindi ma-late -- sisiw... may ibibigay pa nga kaya lang ako na umaayaw.

highway ok lang, mas pansin ko pa city driving pag puno car hirap arangkada.

Ayos lang ang Jazz. Very easy mag 140kph. Had a number of opportunities in the NLEX from Balintawak to Tabang and back. Although it will take you a minute (rough estimate) to reach 140, swabe naman. No vibrations, no jerking.

Well the point still stands that you can't get a piece of road here where a 1.6L car will clearly outrun a 1.3L by a mile. Unless maybe if you often drive at 3AM.

And knowing when to shift gears adds thrill to it all ;)

    hmmm...

Ask any racer, any real racer. It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile; winning's winning.

Honestly, sa 1.8L nga medyo bitin na... sa 1.3 pa kaya. If I had a 1.3L engine to start with, i rather cruise at 80-100kph than letting the engine gulp more fuel than it needs to. Doing 160 is boring on a free strip of road but it sure makes you go faster from point a to b but not by an advantage of an hour or so.

i know medyo special case you ung sa kin...i drove our less than adequately maintained 1.3L ae92 xl to alabang town center once. umaabot ako ng 110kph, but the engine really sounded as if i was stepping on its n#ts when i pressed on the gas B). parang at any moment the engine was gonna jump out of the hood and kick my *$$. :D

the newer 1.3L cars seem to have more oomph though; ewan ko lang kung dahil brand new sila, or if it's the newer engines

I usually cruise at around 100-110 on the expressway, unless I want to have some fun. That's a right around 2500 rpm or a bit above, so it's not that uneconomical. I you'd want to be frugal through and through then yes you can drop to 2000rpm, which is right about 80.

C'mon, a well maintained 1.3 engine won't leave you like a cripple on the highway. May dad drives a 1.6 and I use it at times. It accelerates quicker, that's a no-brainer of course, yet I don't feel deprived on my 1.3 either. Though on a two lane highway I'd have to be extra-careful of my choice of gears for overtaking (manual sakin eh), but if you are an experienced driver it's not too much of a problem. d

1.8 bitin?.....I can't say anything about that anymore. I just wonder what you're trying to do. hehe

*on the other hand..I haven't experienced driving a 'matic 1.3. Maybe that's where you'd really have a problem cause you can't select the gears

Read my post on the 1st page. I've already said that before. A 1.3L can cruise decently on the highway. Problem is that once you decelerate, it is hard to get up to speed again.

Well, based on the posts... they claim that pushing above 100kph is a very easy / sisiw for 1.3L engines.

The Honda City CVT will differ to that. A really fun car to drive.

medyo bnabatak ko kasi tong 1.3 corolla ko. seriously, mdalas akong above 100kph, dito kasi mas dlikado mag-drive ng mbagal at dudunggulin ka sa likuran ng mga sira-ulong arabo.

'sisiw' kako 160kph kasi di pa ko naka-floor nun. actually i easily get to 140kph, going to 160kph klangan pa mag-pickup konti... just like you guys said, NOT at all to be compared sa mas malalaking engines -- magkakatalo sa response time.

Last time I sped up on skyway, ang dali kong inovertake yung 1.3L Honda City CVT using a car with a 1.8L engine. Side by side at first at 80kph then at the same time we went full throttle. I was already doing 160kph while the city was doing 130kph when we decided to decelerate. I wasn't even going redline to achieve max power (3500rpms then shift). How much more if I downshifted to 3rd gear then squeeze every bit of hp from the engine.

So it's probably the reason why Honda dared to have an A/T on the 1.3 city/jazz, because of the CVT. Sounds logical enough.

Pushing to 100kph is not that difficult really. Just don't play catch with someone on straight acceleration 'cause syempre wala kang laban.

Regarding the momentum part, yes that's true. That's why I said you have to be pay more attention to gear selection especially in two lane highways.

There's 500cc of difference. If the city did match your acceleration then you should be worried about your engine.

1,3 engine good only for city driving, one time punta me bataan dala ko 92 GTI Galant pa gas me 800 sarap dalhin sibat talaga no problem sa overtaking, may tira pa sa 800 ko at nagamit ko pa ng ilang araw.
